Job Description

Do you consider yourself a great customer- or user-oriented Software Engineer, Sales Engineer, Customer Engineer, Solutions Consultant, or System Architect? If so, the Woolpert Innovation Team is interested in you. Woolpert has a successful business moving customers to the Cloud. We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer (SWE) to accelerate growth in our Woolpert Cloud Solutions team.

Locations:

Flexible for the right candidate; otherwise Dayton, Ohio, or Denver, Colorado.

About the Role:

Woolpert Software Engineers (SWEs) play a critical role in enabling a Cloud-first approach for our customers. We need a strong software engineer to extend our portfolio of geospatial, asset management, and industry-specific products.

We love pragmatic solutions at Woolpert and try really hard to leave dogma at the door. Spaces vs. tabs? Not important: just pick an option and stick with it, or use a linting tool to make the decision for you!! As long as the rest of the team can work with you using compatible tools, libraries, languages, and methods, we'll get along great.

Existing code bases are a fact of life and source of value. Rather than immediately thinking 'Rewrite!' or blaming those who came before, you prefer to apply your refactoring skills and technical judgment to progressively improve what is in place. If a completely new approach is needed, you know how to justify it, how to estimate the work, and how to deliver.

We also value a collaborative and respectful team culture. A diversity of opinions is not just nice to have, it's a critical business advantage.

Success will be measured by your ability to deliver new and existing software that is progressively more stable, maintainable, and performant and naturally, your work should also benefit our end users.

Responsibilities:

* Write, refactor, and optimize new and existing software to create maintainable, performant products.
* Deploy products and solutions to cloud infrastructure in a repeatable way.
* Troubleshoot and debug all aspects of a Cloud-native software solution.
* Assess new and existing commercial and open source technology as a basis for Woolpert products.

Minimum Requirements:

* BS degree in Computer Science or similar technical field of study or 5+ years equivalent practical experience
* Experience building and deploying production-grade solutions in a virtualized environment such as Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or similar platform
* Proficient in at least one of Java, C#, C++, Python, Go, or modern JavaScript
* Experience working with two or more from the following: web application development, Unix/Linux environments, distributed and parallel systems, and/or machine learning
* Working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English

Additional Skills

Any of the following skills would make you an even stronger member of the team:

* Relevant Google Certified Professional (Cloud Architect or Data Engineer)
* Knowledge of non-Google geospatial platforms, libraries, and tools, such as ArcGIS, GeoServer, GDAL, PDAL, MapBox, Leaflet, CARTO
* CI/CD deployment to Cloud/containerized environments
* DevOps tools like Terraform, Chef, Ansible
* Applied Machine Learning
