Position Summary:

The Privacy Specialist is responsible for ensuring privacy reports related to privacy and security breach case investigations, reporting, monitoring and improvement efforts are appropriately entered, completed and reported in the designated systems of record in compliance with state and federal privacy requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Affordability Act (HIPAA). The Specialist ensures adherence to organizational policies and procedures; performs internal investigations, audits, monitors activities; documents privacy/security incidents and maintains data/analytics that report on department operations; triages incoming reports and serves as the master level user for the access monitoring software tool. The Privacy Specialist may assist with projects, incident reporting, breach reporting, and development of content for the internal and external websites and newsletters. The incumbent monitors policies and procedures to align with and reflect current and future state and federal regulations (including HIPAA and HITECH); fosters privacy awareness, and maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state privacy laws.

Minimum Requirements:

Three (3) years of healthcare experience required

One (1) year of HIPAA compliance, investigatory, or legal experience required

Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Bachelors degree in computer sciences, social sciences, legal, business, or clinical field required OR a Bachelors degree in unrelated field plus two (2) years of healthcare experience may be accepted in lieu of degree in one of the above listed fields

Professional compliance or privacy designation, such as Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance, HealthCare Information Security and Privacy Professional, or Certified Compliance Professional preferred
