The Role

We are Located in the HERE Burlington office, this engineer will help us build best-in-class services that enable HERE Open Location Platform and Location Services customers. We are looking for Principal Software Engineer to build and enhance our HERE API Gateway (HAPI) to handle billions of requests each day.

You will be directly responsible for development and delivery of highly scalable and performant HERE API Gateway. Your role encompasses defining and working on features and technical tasks in a self-directed fashion, supporting your colleagues with technical challenges, working with product management to analyze requirements, talking to partners, designing, implementing and documenting solutions as well as testing and reviewing your colleagues' work.

Some detailed responsibilities include the following:

* Design, develop, test, deploy and oncall support HERE API Gateway components.
* Evaluate and choose technologies suitable, communicate effectively about decisions, direction and progress, both inside and outside the team.
* Provide coaching and technical guidance for less experienced team members.
* Develop components and services using agile methods and tools
* Build and deploy microservices using Kubernetes, Docker and understand deployment and monitoring tools like Helm, iPass, Grafana, Prometheus

Who are you?

You are a principal level software engineer who is a collaborative, creative problem solver with an interest in analytics and the following:

* MS Degree with 5 to 8 years of experience, with at least 2 years of experience in technical leadership.
* Excellent analytical skills, communication skills with good written and spoken English
* Knowledge about basic algorithms and data structures, In-depth experience of writing unit-, acceptance- and performance tests
* Familiarity with HTTP, the REST-principles, and TCP/IP networking, good understanding of OAuth and other authentication and authorization standards
* Solid experience in Java, Scala, Python development, and understanding of Microservices Architecture.
* Experience with Amazon Web Services, Spark, Splunk, Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, iPass, Grafana, Prometheus, NGNIX.
* Strong experience of Web Application Servers and Web Application Architecture, exposure to Amazon API Gateway, or similar products is a plus.
