Job summary

The Products and Technology (PnT) DevOps team is looking for a Principal Project Manager to join us in Westford, MA. In this role, you will help us manage key projects and programs related to internal and external cloud services and other important projects. You'll manage large, complex programs from initiation to closure for internal and external cloud services and other high profile projects. You'll get an opportunity to collaborate with talented people and engineers across internal and external cloud services teams to achieve goals and provide project and program direction. As a Principal Project Manager, you'll need to have the ability to pull people and resources together, keep projects and people on task, and guide the direction of crucial open source projects and programs for Red Hat both internally and externally.

Primary job responsibilities

* Manage directly large, complex programs related to enabling business strategies from initiation to closure, according to prescribed processes and core skill levels
* Chair project meetings between stakeholders and the project team
* Manage stakeholder expectations and project budgets, as well as project issues, risks, resources, and changes
* Report on project and program progress and health
* Formulate project plans including scope, schedule, resources, costs, benefits, and communications
* Participate in learning opportunities and professional development
* Contribute to the project management team knowledge base
* Provide advice and counsel to members of different departments
* Anticipate and mitigate problems and issues based on prior experience
* Accomplish timely delivery of complex initiatives without close managerial oversight
* Have visible technical impact on key elements of our business, strategic direction, improving time-to-market, and cost reduction; address unmet customer needs

Required skills

* Bachelor's degree
* Program or portfolio management qualifications (MSP, SAFE, etc.)
* 8+ years of project or program management experience delivering technology-related services or offerings
* Extensive experience working with agile methodology; comfortable working as a scrum master on multiple projects
* Experience working in a technical capacity, particularly in an IT operations environment prior to project management
* Ability to direct your own efforts and those of other team members
* Outstanding problem-solving skills
* Ability to consistently address and resolve common or recurring issues across function and business team boundaries
* Good judgement within broadly defined policies and practices to determine the best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives
* Ability to make strategic and tactical recommendations and also personally inspire decisions or team members
* Comfortable working on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations, data, or intangibles is required
* Outstanding communication skills; clear, concise, and effective written and verbal communication skills
* Demonstrated skills at making trade-offs, negotiating, and building consensus while maintaining focus on customer requirements and strategic business and team efforts and goals
* Excellent understanding of and deep familiarity with project management tools, systems, techniques, methodologies, and best practices
* Broad and deep understanding of different scheduling methodologies, tools, and defect-tracking systems
* Experienced at defining and building processes, workflows, and release schedules, often for concurrent release efforts
* Effective at analysis of situations or data that require an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including business drivers, cross-product dependencies, and required process changes
* Outstanding risk and change management skills, based on demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities
* Experience with open source is a plus
