JOB TITLE: PEI, Wireless Access Engineering - Architect
JOB SUMMARY
The Wireless Access Engineering PEI is responsible for the development of Charter's Spectrum Spectrum Connectivity (SCP) Platform development. In this role, you will work closely with technology vendors, starndards bodies, and key business stakeholders, i.e. Product Engineering, Advanced Engineering, and Operations. Develops innovative solutions and leads all SCP POC initiatives.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibles include, defining SCP Architecture, Silicon SDK and Target Layer Requirements, Technical requirements, presenting technical solutions to leadership, evaluating multi-vendor solutions, creating innovative proof-of-concepts, and drive new technologies and products into the network.
Supports software initiatives that include test automation, cloud management, and virtualization of network functions, along with new applications running on the Router to support new services that Product may request.
Develops new innovative Spectrum Connectivity Platform Cloud and CPE solutions for Wireless Access technologies, such as 802.11ax/ad/ay, 6GHz Wi-Fi, IoT, RRM/SON, and LTE that increased performance, reliability, and QoE (Quality of Experience) for customers, while driving down the CPE cost and velocity to market.
Develops a long-term technology evolution roadmaps (3-5 years) articulating strategic decision points, technology evolution plan and recommendations with regard to technology and network infrastructure investments.
Works hands-on in the lab to implement best-in-class testing tools and test methodologies.
Assesses new Product initiatives to define and document the technology architecture, technical requirements, and design to implment them.
Intellectual Property creation, patent filing and promotion of such IP through the contribution to relevant standards and industry forums.
Provides a robust wireless connectivity experience around the home through the use of a single access-point or multi-AP managed solution.
Contributes and represents Charter in relevant industry and standards forums such as: the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), CableLabs, IEEE, WiFi Alliance (WFA), CableWiFi MSO Alliance, etc.
Primary lead for all SCP vendor hardware and software evaluations.
Defines architecture strategies and partners with other Engineering architects to identify gaps and/or risks.
Makes the right strategic decisions.
Contributes and Improves SCP Cloud environments, CPE development and test methodologies.
Contributes and Reviews all SCP architecture and Wireless Access CPE designs, code, and implementation strategies.
Reviews and assesses business requirements to align the technical requirements and technology development.
Provides technology and solution recommendations to Product Development organization with the objective of optimizing cost, reducing complexity, improving user experience, and driving innovative solutions to our customers.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Experienced in cloud, containers and modular software architectures, such as OpenSync.
Experienced in wireless radio access technologies, such as Wi-Fi, 4G-LTE, familiar with 5G.
Hands-on experience in designing software and leading software development initiatives.
Experienced in software/hardware test methodologies, test and measurement tools and test automation
Experienced with software and programming languages that include JAVA and Python.
Experienced in network programming and/or developing/designing large software systems
Ability to lead complex projects working with a matrix team of hardware and software development engineers at junior and senior levels across the different Engineering organizations.
Strong technology expertise, proven leadership skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong technical skills, and customer-service orientation.
Experienced with Wi-Fi routers and Access Point hardware design, development, and certification
Experienced with defining requirements for hardware and Wireless features and performance
Familiar with RDK-B, OpenWRT, and CableLabs initiatives
Familiar with Wireless Gateway and Router designs and roadmap plans for all major Operators in the U.S.
Ability to communicate with all levels of management
Ability to manage and deliver against several initiatives simultaneously
Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
Ability to communicate effectively orally and electronically
Ability to think outside the box to develop new and innovative solutions.
Possess proven leadership skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong technical skills, and customer-service orientation.
Education
BSEE in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent; MBA preferred.
Related Work Experience Number of Years

Technology management experience working with the top 5-7
MSOs, Telco, satellite operators or major wireless vendor in the U.S.
