Principal Backend Engineer

Job Description

Tile is building the world's largest real-time finding network. This candidate will lead the overall architecture, development and maintenance of Tile's cloud services, scaling to millions of users and devices, and billions of daily location updates. We're looking for an awesome, fun, smart, hardworking, creative, friendly, responsible person to effectively help Tile execute on company vision, create great products, and make a great working environment. The successful candidate will be passionate about best software engineering practices and have significant experience in all stages of the product development cycle. The job entails participation in the design, development, and deployment of highly scalable server applications. This candidate should ideally enjoy and participate in team lunches, as well as have drive to excel in the company.

Challenges you would help solve

* Establish and coordinate overall architecture for highly available cloud services at large scale
* Own overall goals for uptime and scalability
* Mentor and oversee the work of other server engineers
* Design databases to manage our massive amounts of data
* Build API's with clean interfaces
* Create systems that are highly concurrent and handle billions of requests

Requirements

* Experience as a technical lead with production services and operations at significant scale
* Excellent coding, organizational and communication skills
* BS or higher degree in computer science or a related field
* 5+ years of experience in a production setting
* Demonstrable mastery of Java or Scala, C++/C on the job experience in backend server development (J2EE/spring)
* Experience with REST APIs, Asynchronous Programming, Spring and/or Play Frameworks
* Experience with AWS
