Basic Qualifications

Associate's degree in related discipline or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Department of Defense Secret security clearance is secret at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Planner/Ship Checker. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

* The candidate must have extensive knowledge of shipboard structural, mechanical, piping and electrical systems and understand Navy shipboard compartmentation lay-out.
* The candidate must have the ability to read, understand and validate a Work Notification and to determine the scope of work contained within that Work Notification.
* The candidate must be familiar with Standard Drawing Indexes, Navy Standard Drawings, blueprints, system diagrams, Navy acronyms, and other technical publications and references.
* The candidate must have the ability to conduct research and determine the correct reference and/or drawing required for the scope of work identified in the Work Notification.
* The candidate must have extensive experience with NMD-R
* The candidate must have extensive knowledge
* The candidate must also have physical ability to climb ladders, transit decks and perform work onboard Naval Vessels.
* Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirements
* Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards
* Responsible for defining and determining best practice process and procedures for collected data to be transposed to professional writing product

Proactively informs the technical documentation lead of assignment status, issues or concerns, including issues of scope, schedule, process, and quality through informal meetings, and emailed status reports to keep the technical documentation lead informedKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:•Considerable written communication skills and the ability to tailor communication to target audience•Considerable verbal communication, listening and writing skills•Considerable ability to research highly technical information and interpret data•Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity•Experience with editing and production tools•Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action •Considerable ability to build productive internal/external working relationships•Frequently interacts with internal company and external contacts•Works under only very general supervision
