Job Description

PURPOSE of POSITION:

The Database Administrator-Oracle, Senior performs activities related to the day-to-day administration and maintenance of database systems. The Database Administrator-Oracle, Senior is responsible for installations, upgrades, backups, and configuration. The Database Administrator-Oracle, Senior confers with appropriate managers regarding problems with and capabilities of database systems. The Database Administrator-Oracle, Senior may do limited amount of design and programming. The Database Administrator-Oracle, Senior is considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline. The Database Administrator-Oracle, Senior conducts complex work that is critically important to the organization and works under minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment. Requires expert skill sets and high proficiency within discipline. The Database Administrator-Oracle, Senior may mentor less experienced peers as needed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. 40%: Responsible for installations, upgrades, patching, backups, maintenance activities, infrastructure on call, and configuration management, including daily database administration, database recovery, and maintaining Oracle standalone and clustered databases. Assignments may include design of data dictionaries, database structure and layout, installing, upgrading, and managing database applications.

2. 20%: Support database performance tuning efforts to improve the efficiency of support databases. Participates in continuous improvement efforts in enhancing performance and providing increased functionality, including performing proactive maintenance such as ensuring continued space availability, monitoring activity, and documenting problems, changes, and solutions.

3. 20%: Performs database on-call duties and supports scheduled database maintenance weekend activities. Reviews business requests for data and data usage, researches data sources. Coordinates testing of designed applications. Stays current on vendor's best security practices in relation to organizational requirements. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned. Participates in special projects as required. Participates in on-call rotation for DB support...

4. 10%: Confers with appropriate managers regarding problems with and capabilities of Oracle databases. Works closely with development and Middleware teams to manage environments. May do a limited amount of design and programming. Participates in the design, maintenance, enhancement, coding, and administration of relational databases. Analyzes and determines information needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, data flow and storage requirements, data output and reporting capabilities. Coordinates new data development ensuring consistency and integration with existing data structures.

5. 10%: Support the Build and Run team, acting as a technical liaison for the Operations team to peer groups. Provides guidance and work leadership to less experienced analysts.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree

Computer Science or related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

Related Work Experience: 6-8 years

* Hands-on, working knowledge of relational databases and experience working in an Oracle 11g or 12c

large Data Warehousing environment.

* Strong experience working with Oracle OEM (Grid Control), Oracle RAC, and Oracle RMAN backup and

Recovery.

* Solid troubleshooting skills & expertise in performance tuning of Oracle Databases and tuning application

SQL.

* Proficiency with SQL and Oracle PL/SQL languages.
* Previous experience and knowledge working with PostgreSQL and other open source database solutions is

a plus.

* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Prior experience working with CMS is beneficial.

This position is an individual contributor and has no supervisory responsibilities. Provides functional expertise through day-to-day work tasks. Works under the supervision of management.
