The Network Management Systems (NMS) Engineer is responsible for the design, coding, development and modification of NMS/EMS products to address the business requirement for surveillance and monitoring of RCN's business critical and real-time applications and services. This position works more independently with some general direction and is responsible for ensuring the best practices and guidelines are adhered to.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Manage application development, reporting and configuration of network monitoring systems as part of RCN's NMS infrastructure.
* Administers various EMS applications that supports the NOC, Engineering, Operations, and IT departments.
* Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and tools. Experience with systems and IT operations.
* Automate parts of the development delivery process using scripts and other appropriate tools.
* Handle request to modify and enhance monitoring activities.
* Conduct tool development, maintenance and database cleanup.
* Document processes and user guides for integrated tools and scripts.
* Advise on new technologies and methodologies by becoming an expert in emerging technologies and tools.

Requirements Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree (IT/Computer Science Preferred) or equivalent experience
* Proficient in scripting languages like shell scripts, batch scripts, PHP, Perl, Python, Java, JavaScript
* Experience with monitoring and reporting tools such as IBM Netcool Omnibus / Impact / ITNM,, Nervecenter, Cacti, MRTG, Splunk
* Experience managing windows, linux operating systems, networking, database servers to perform software installations, upgrades, patching etc.
* Strong understanding of network monitoring and security setup, SNMP, syslog, HTTPS
* Team player & ability work with multiple teams across organization to co-ordinate releases, deployment, troubleshooting
