The Engineer 1 will report to the Sr. Manager - Supply Chain and will be part of the team that is responsible for Application portfolio management and development that focuses on building and configuring software solutions. This entails: (1) strategizing, roadmap planning, selecting, architecting/designing, building and implementing technology solutions to solve complex business problems.(2) portfolio management for entire business applications suite (3) actively managing the on-going health and supportability of the portfolio in alignment with IT Ops & Support, (4) managing the cost, contracts, and licensing associated with the portfolio, (5) partnering with other IT and business teams to deliver end to end technology solutions for JCPenney. The team provides IT solutions to JCP supply chain, customer care, and digital platform.

Critical Primary Responsibilities:

* Participates in all phases of the software development lifecycle to build technical solutions for small to medium complex efforts, including being able to adhere to security & compliance and partner with shared services to achieve the business objectives and goals.?
* Responsible for learning existing system architecture, design, functions, configuration, integrations, and capabilities as well as assisting and supporting the design, code level build, and implementation of new systems
* Partners with team to drive resolution and process improvements to further minimize impact to our production environment and support business partners. Documents all key processes to further drive performance.?
* Develops (design/code/configure) high quality software solutions in a collaborative development environment, working closely with Lead Engineers.
* Work closely with the business partners, business analysts on the team to configure systems and deliver technical solutions adhering to business requirements
* Adheres to organizational methodology and technology standards and prepares documentation of work.
* Keep up to date on technology supported and is a key participant in knowledge transfer. Interact with business teams to gather, interpret and understand their business needs creating design specifications.
* Providing solutions for the application side of JC Penney's Warehouse Control systems which directly operates automated MHE (Material Handling Equipment) in our distribution centers.

Critical Skills & Experiences:

* Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent field with at least 1+ years' experience.
* .Net/C#/C++/Web UI software development experience (1+ years) (can be classroom environment).
* Self-starting with strong work ethics and eager to learn new and complex systems/
* Strong listening, questioning, clarifying and summarizing skills to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group settings.
* Experience with at least one version control system such as Git or SVN.
* Familiarity with serial port communication, PLC IO/RS485, TCP/IP communication is a strong plus.
* Experience working with cross functional teams and business users
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
* Excellent analytic, innovative and creative skills for problem solving and suggesting alternatives.
* Understands IT methods and applies them to complex problems/projects
* Ability to stay focused while performing heads-down work
* Excellent team attitude with strong interpersonal and group communication skills.
