Description

Technology Architects, generally, design and develop overarching, technology structures and architectures to address specific, business problems. This particular position focuses on "middleware" architecture specifically. Middleware, a software layer located between the operating system and applications of a distributed, computer network, is an infrastructure used to connect software components with different, enterprise applications. As large, network-based applications become rapidly more common among businesses, middleware allows enterprise organizations to integrate previously-independent applications with new software developments, in order to build and develop enterprise-wide information systems. By designing and configuring middleware infrastructures and platforms, the Middleware Architect develops and supports distributed applications and networks. Work spans the entire, development lifecycle or process, from analysis of business requirements, to definition or design of middleware architectures to suit specific needs, to developing software architectures and integrating those architectures into practical use. Working with a variety of technologies (specified in section below entitled, "Required Skills & Experience"), the Middleware Architect will use and integrate different, architectural styles and domains, as well as software products, applications, and systems. Other responsibilities of the position include: contributing to design approaches for middleware integrations, system development, data migrations, and design of other technologies; documenting design specifications, installation instructions, and other system-related information; collaborating with engineers and software developers to ensure compatibility of system components; analyzing system-specific data, hardware, and software components required; "hands-on" performing systems and technology installations, configurations, and data migrations in technical environments related to development, quality, and production; contributing to the development, debugging, and troubleshooting of systems and middleware technologies specifically (to include root-cause analysis and proper tool utilization); implementing middleware integration patches; effectuating middleware upgrades; analyzing how middleware upgrades and implemented, integration patches may impact current and future applications needed or used, as well as technical environments involved; engaging in further collaboration with internal teams, specifically toward helping to install binaries and system-specific, development files; performing and monitoring testing and validation of implemented systems and software; and documenting results of testing and validation processes. Position, to be clear, is not supervisory capacity. The Middleware Architect does not have subordinate, direct reports. This is a hands-on, individual contributor; does not manage other personnel as Computer/Information Systems Manager would. Telecommuting, moreover (working remotely from home), is permitted (when not needed at client site(s); for more information on travel required, please see section below entitled, "Other Requirements").

Requirements

Where Bachelor's-educated (to include a foreign equivalent): Five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience developing, implementing, and integrating Middleware technologies for clients in the financial services and utilities industries. Note that this overarching, "umbrella", five-year, experiential requirement must also include three years of the following experience (which may have been gained concurrently, i.e., obtained in the process of accruing the five years, otherwise required, and stated as so): (i) developing and implementing JAVA J2EE applications; (ii) with Websphere Application Server, JBoss and Tomcat application servers; (iii) using integration technologies that include the IBM MQ Series, IBM Integration Bus, Red Hat, JBoss, and Eclipse; (iv) integrating database management systems, which specifically must include experience as to either Oracle or DB2 or MS/SQL; (v) integrating enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management systems; and (vi) with the AIX, RHEL, Windows, and VMWare operating environments.

Where alternatively Master's-educated (to include a foreign equivalent): Three years of experience (i) developing, implementing, and integrating Middleware technologies for clients in the financial services and utilities industries; (ii) developing and implementing JAVA J2EE applications; (iii) with WebSphere Application Server, JBoss and Tomcat application servers; (iv) using integration technologies that include the IBM MQ Series, IBM Integration Bus, Red Hat, JBoss, and Eclipse; (v) integrating database management systems, which specifically must include experience as to either Oracle or DB2 or MS/SQL; (vi) integrating enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management systems; and (vii) with the AIX, RHEL, Windows, and VMWare operating environments.

Other Requirements

Travel

Will require strictly domestic, regional travel in Southern New England (Massachusetts, Connecticut and/or Rhode Island) up to one hundred percent of the time. Extent to which must travel, however, will admittedly vary. Travel will be to various, unanticipated, client sites within Southern New England; can include temporary, relocation requirement; specific assignments cannot be predicted in advance; will change over time.

Where Must Live

May live anywhere in Southern New England (again Massachusetts, Connecticut or Rhode Island).

Education

Alongside five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate, required experience (specified above), also need at least a Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, or related field.

Alternatively, Master's Degree or foreign equivalent required, and in Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, or related field, when qualifying based on lesser construct of only three years of required experience (likewise specified above).
