Job Description

The role manages a team to guide the successful delivery of projects through the provision of project management support. The Global Project Manager Lead is responsible for gathering inputs and reporting on project risk/mitigation activities, issue resolution, team effectiveness, quality control and post-project outcomes/benefits.

Through strong communication and influencing skills to challenge the demand and requirements of Business and DOP stakeholders, this role is responsible for effective planning and deployment of procurement resources to complex, high-value/high-impact initiatives and product development projects within the organization. The role must effectively manage interdependencies and balance competing demands to ensure objectives are delivered. The role supports the development and governance of project portfolio management methodologies. The Global Project Manager Lead leads a global team and is responsible to effectively staff, manage, and develop staff to consistently deliver value to the organization.

The Global Project Manager Lead may be assigned to certain projects and would be accountable to deliver on these high-value strategic projects according to the relevant Business Area / Business Unit Product Portfolio Strategy, Product Development roadmap, and annual pipeline of initiatives within DOP. In these cases, the Global Project Manager Lead is accountable for driving and delivering on assigned projects to agreed targets and goals to ensure project milestones are achieved and material cost, delivery, and quality targets are realized while in compliance with relevant policies, standards, guidelines, and operating procedures.

Primary responsibilities

* Demand Planning and Resource deployment - Gather resource requirements for the global / regional Category Strategies and annual product development planning activities, and define/allocate support. Oversee and manage effective project management resources within and outside DOP to meet Direct Procurement and/or BU/BA project deliverables. Supports the planning, priority setting, and implementation process within DOP. Motivates project team members to action.
* Effective business partnering with BU/BA - Translate requirements of Business requestors to Procurement activities, challenging demand and escalating accordingly. Demonstrates superior collaboration skills and techniques which appropriately define alternate solutions.
* Drive Procurement engagement - Responsible for driving early Procurement involvement across Diagnostics BA/BU product development projects and execution of high-value/high-impact projects. Addresses delicate situations and handles conflicts to maximize opportunity and minimize exposure to risk. Responsible for reporting project status, issues and successes.

People Accountabilities

* Provides escalation support to stakeholders - Support project support issues, strategy clarification, conflict resolution, or other topics that pertain to Direct Procurement activities/deliverables within and outside DOP.
* Manage performance - Manage performance and talent development for all direct functional reports and contribute to feedback to project related resources, according to Roche's standards.
* Deliver on assigned projects and targets - high-value strategic projects according to the relevant Business Area / Business Unit Product Portfolio Strategy, Product Development roadmap, and annual pipeline of initiatives within DOP. After project execution, ensure a smooth and efficient handover to the Procurement Operations teams.
* Coach and mentor project managers/specialists
* Training - Perform continuous professional development activities relevant to their area and ensure training in processes and systems relevant to their position.

Education, experience and skills

Required

* University degree, with business or life sciences degree preferable.
* Business level fluency in English.
* International work experience and/or direct management of international teams
* 8+ years procurement experience with experience in new product development, strategic sourcing.
* Strong Project Management skillset and/or experience in project portfolio governance
* Excellent organizational skills and trained in the utilization of project management software (e.g. MS Project, JIRA, Smartsheet, etc.)
* Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively manage complex/global network of stakeholders.
* Strong stakeholder management skills and capability in executive-level communication.
* Ability to work outside of standard business hours

Desired

* Post graduate business-related qualification.
* Documented international strategic sourcing or cost reduction experience.
* Life Sciences experience.
* Professional purchasing (e.g. CIPS, ISM) or Finance related licenses or certifications.
* Experience or demonstrated understanding in Category Management as well as understanding of the major spend categories and potential cost levers.
* Experience with enterprise systems and procure-to-pay tools such as Ariba, SAP or other purchase requisition technology.

Travel requirements: Availability to travel for up to 20% of time.
