Your Role and Responsibilities

The Network Reliability Engineering department within IBM Cloud's IaaS Network Engineering team provides incident and problem management, internal and external customer-driven changes, network evolution guidance, network testing, break-fix troubleshooting, and maintenance services for all aspects of data networking for SoftLayer. The Manager, for Shift 2 of Network Reliability Engineering is an individual who is an accomplished people manager with experience in network engineering and network operations.

The NRE Shift 2 Manager's role includes the following responsibilities:

* Manages Shift 2 (APAC daytime coverage) team and resource workloads and prioritizes assignments to ensure alignment with business objectives and initiatives in a dynamic environment.
* Provides direction to engineering resources in areas including but not limited to: routing protocols, routers, switches, firewall administration, MPLS, BGP, VPN, load balancing. Hands-on experience in these disciplines is required.
* Managed multiple complex projects
* Manages project budgets
* Reviews and final approval for all network change activities initiated by network engineers on the team to ensure proper coordination, implementation and validation procedures are in-place. Ensures conformance to change management policies.
* Incident management during critical events that impact the network, including internal and external communications, team coordination of repair and then root cause analysis efforts.
* Manages vendors in supporting the on-going growth and enhancements to the network infrastructure.
* Identifies process improvements to streamline and reduce workflow delivery of NRE responsibilities. Works closely with the Core Engineering and Architecture team to ensure consistent implementation of changes to the production environment and adherence to network configuration standards at all times. Additionally to drive improvements from lessons learned during root cause analysis and trending on incidents.
* Responsible for hiring, developing, mentoring and promoting engineering resources according to HR policy.
* Provides clear oral and written communication of network change activity and outage events to peers and senior leadership within the organization.
* Maintains high-quality customer service to clients and customers.
* Work with internal IBM Cloud IaaS teams to ensure their requirements are being met in a timely fashion.

Required Professional and Technical Expertise

* Monday through Friday 21:00 to 06:00 UTC
* 10+ years of experience in network engineering and operations in a multi-vendor environment
* 5+ years of experience in managing a team of networking staff

Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise

* The primary location for this position is the Dallas office
* Periodic travel to other IBM Cloud IaaS offices and/or data centers will be required (< 10%)
