The manager will manage and oversees the hardware, systems programming software and management of mainframe environment. The Mainframe system is an integral part of Alight Solutions' business. It is vital to Alight that Mainframe environment maintains the highest reliability and performance possible

The Manager of Systems software is responsible for assisting the Director in overseeing all mainframe hardware configurations, installations and upgrades for mainframe processors, disk and tape subsystems, all systems programming functions, performance monitoring, change management, Z/OS systems software installation and migrations, DB2 software installations and migrations, numerous ISV product installation/upgrades as well as performance and goal management of the team. Enterprise systems management includes resource monitoring and reporting, and the development of specialized programs. Enterprise systems programming includes coordinating the changes, deployment, maintenance, upgrade and support of the enterprise hardware and software products.

Responsibilities

* Assists the Director in the management and direction setting for the enterprise's system programming group including setting priorities, coordinating, and the reporting of group activities.
* Oversee the activities of team members to ensure completion of tasks and attainment of departmental goals.
* Works closely other groups to coordinate plans and activities including coordination to facilitate specific development projects that involve the enterprise systems, the coordination of hardware and software upgrades as well as installation of new products.
* Provides weekly and monthly reports on project status as well as forecasts of utilization
* Participates in the assessment of advanced operating systems and database production systems including beta and field test participation
* Handle personnel activities of staff (i.e., hire, train, reward, motivate, discipline, terminate, and conduct performance/pay reviews).
* Partner with third-parties, vendors, peers and customers to build relationships and synergy.
* Generally act as team lead and represent the team in various forums, including those related to audits and sales.
* Be a technical resource for the team

Skills

* Strong technical knowledge of the z/OS operating system software which includes (z/OS, CICS, DB2 and ISV software)
* Strong technical knowledge of z/OS, hardware and software
* Strong technical understanding mainframe storage
* Superior problem determination skills
* People management skills, including the ability to manage the careers of other individuals
* Leadership skills, specifically the ability to influence, motivate and enable others to contribute to the effectiveness and success of ITS goals
* Able to coach associates and build a culture that thrives on change and growth
* Able to minimize and resolve differences while strengthening existing relationships and teamwork
* Able to anticipate change and prepare teams effectively
* Financial acumen
* Ability to lead projects and manage timelines
* Ability to transform user requirements into actionable tasks

Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree with minimum of 7 years of job related experience
* Excellent communication, analytical, and development skills.
* Superior customer focus
