General Summary

The Linux/Cloud Architect position designs, configures and installs Cloud, Network, Server, and Workstation hardware and software. This includes both physical servers, as well as virtual servers and Cloud based deployments. These activities require addressing business and technical issues, resolving computer-related problems, and providing technical and business expertise. Individuals are also required to gather business requirements, perform analysis, develop user acceptance test plans, support user testing, develop technical and user documentation, and provide training. The position will load and verify correct operation of software packages. Individuals will also provide support and provide technical assistance to users on Linux, Windows, iOS, and OSX based devices.

Individuals may work with a variety of staff from Information and Technology Services (ITS), Information Security (IS), Federal Reserve Information Technology (FRIT), FRB and the Board staff, and the National IT Help Desk (NSD). To be successful in the position, the individual must understand strategic thinking, have the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across the organization to make a positive impact. Apply current business knowledge in own field and know customer business operations. The position is also responsible for leading and coordinating the staff group involved with maintaining the server and assisting the department IT manager in management issues surrounding aforementioned server group staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Work within and across agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies.
* Leads overall execution of build and deploy activities in quality assurance and production environments.
* Designs and architects solutions for client-facing applications as they are moved into cloud environments
* Own the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions throughout their full life span.
* Empower other teams through regular documentation, knowledge transfers, self-service tools, and open communication.
* Defines and documents continuous integration / continuous deployment best practices.
* Ensure system availability, performance, capacity, and continuity through timely response to incidents, events, and problems.
* Give back to the community whenever possible - share research/training findings internally, participate in internal and external technology groups.
* Enhances system security by monitoring security environment; identifying security gaps; evaluating and implementing enhancements.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Very strong to excellent Linux skills.


* Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Ability to lead and direct complicated, multi-month projects.
* Must have prior experience with commercial Cloud provider.
* Deep Knowledge of systems hardening and implementing security controls in depth.
* Networking troubleshooting skills. Prior experience with high performance networks a plus.
* Experience with installation and maintenance of High-Performance Computing (HPC) system.
* Bonus points for deep knowledge of academic mathematic systems.
* Prior experience with time-series based monitoring/observability systems.

Complexity

Works on complex issues where analysis of situations and data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Supervision

Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments, and may provide work direction to others. Works under minimal supervision.

Minimum Education/Training/Certification

Bachelor's degree.

Minimum Work Experience

Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience
