Job Description

GEICO's ISD Underwriting Systems department has an immediate opportunity for a Lead Software Engineer I to lead .NET development projects. Our department develops and operates underwriting, rating, and 3rd-party data systems that enable GEICO to apply risks and premium pricing to auto and cycle policies during sales and renewals. We are working with our UPM and APR business partners to upgrade and expand our system capabilities. This is an excellent opportunity to drive GEICO's initiatives for customer growth and retention.

In this role you will lead a team working on one of several projects such as centralizing business rules for risk and rating decisions, building modeling deployment capabilities, and improving rate & risk impact simulations. You will work with other Underwriting Systems app teams and with Sales, Service, and DSaT. You will participate in planning and strategy sessions to improve our systems, define and drive application team projects using Microsoft Azure & .Net platforms, and provide production support as needed.

* Create a fun team culture on your team and in the overall department



Technical Skills:

* Proven ability to design three-tier application architectures for high performance and reliability. Includes knowledge of web servers, databases, virtualization, storage, load balancers, and firewalls


* Strong understanding of the interactions across application design, infrastructure, development processes, and production support


* Excellent knowledge of Team Foundation Server (TFS) or VSTS, .NET framework, SQL Server, and C# coding


* Solid foundation in Windows server operating systems or Windows/Linux application development


* Troubleshooting skills and aptitude with Microsoft server and application logs and debugging procedures


* Prior Azure experience is desirable


* Candidates must have the ability and flexibility to support and manage systems in our 24x7 environment
