The primary responsibility of the Lead Embedded Firmware Engineer is to be the overall technical lead for New Product Development projects for Fire Alarm Control Panels and peripheral devices. The Lead Systems Engineer will work with a team of multidisciplinary product development engineers (some remotely located) and be responsible for overall product definition, architecture development and system integration activities, including the definition and integration of hardware, firmware and software components. In early phases of new projects, will work with Product Management to properly scope initial design concepts with appropriate cross-functional team members. Will also be responsible for coordinating technical program execution to ensure various aspects of the design are properly implemented for successful product launch.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Define product design requirements and specifications to meet customer needs
* Develop and analyze design concepts
* Develop overall system architectures along with those of subsystems and components
* Lead integration of subsystems to meet product design requirements including developing system integration plans and leading system integration teams
* Ensure designs meet product requirements (functional, cost, quality, safety and reliability)
* Use Model Based Design and simulation tools to model and assess the system performance early in the process
* Define design trade-offs as necessary to ensure the highest level of product performance and quality when considering product cost, manufacturability and available technologies
* Develop required design documentation including requirements, functional block diagrams, and DFMEAs
* Lead root cause activities as necessary utilizing the appropriate tools, such as fault-tree analysis and fishbone diagrams
* Provide clear communications to technical team members and leaders as well as to leaders and managers with less technical background
* Mentor team members working on a product development programs on Systems Engineering
* Lead Technical Reviews

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field is required

Master's degree in those fields would be a plus

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

* Demonstrated experience in electronic and/or firmware analysis design and development
* Demonstrated experience in controls and digital design integration
* Strong & diverse technical skills including an ability to use H/W scope probes, in-Circuit-Emulators, Simulators or Debuggers for trouble shooting
* Significant experience in embedded system and software design
* Must be comfortable leading team members through various product development and problem solving activities
* Must be a creative thinker with high initiative
* Must be able to develop appropriate levels of testing requirements, including security requirements
* Demonstrated experience in systems engineering
* Demonstrated technical coaching and mentoring skills
* Experience creating and leading systems integration plans and teams
* At least 15 years' experience in product design
* 2 years' experience developing and managing technical requirements, including the use of requirement management tools
* Travel required is approximately 20 percent of the time

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

* Experience of developing networked control systems for commercial or industrial applications
* Electronic / embedded system designs based on Micro controller / Microprocessor based systems and associated subsystems such as power supply, I/O interfaces, displays, communication and communications modules
* Firmware: designs of firmware for electronic products and systems; Experience improving existing designs and source code to help attain goal of having a modular structure
* Commercial fire alarm control system product development experience
* Strong engineering project management skills
* Requirements management and version control software experience
* Software test case / defect management tool expertise
* Team and technology leadership experience
* Demonstrated history of innovative thinking
* Working knowledge of electronics manufacturing
* Working knowledge of Web APIs and Web applications, Mobile applications
