The Lead Engineer will report to the Sr. Manager - Payment Systems and will be part of the team that is responsible for application portfolio management and development that focuses on building and configuring software solutions for payment authorization, settlement systems, enterprise encryption services and JCPenney credit services. This entails: (1) solving complex business problems by strategizing, roadmap planning, selecting, architecting/designing, building and implementing technology. (2) portfolio management for entire business applications suite (3) actively managing the on-going health and supportability of the portfolio in alignment with IT Ops & Support, (4) partnering with other IT and business teams to deliver end to end technology solutions for JCPenney.

Critical Primary Responsibilities:

* Drive portfolio ownership by leading and development of application functionality that are aligned with business strategy and enterprise roadmaps. Gather, analyze, evaluate, and challenge information obtained from multiple sources. Requires strong cross-functional partnership due to tightly integrated systems.
* Serve as the technology subject matter expert for business customer, IT, vendors, integration, and testing teams to ensure deliverables are technically sound and meet customers' expectations. Work closely with project management, leadership, and partner teams to ensure quality of solutions.
* Lead analysis, design, development, testing and deployment of technology solutions for medium to large size projects/programs through all phases of the development lifecycle.
* Mentor and train less experienced engineers across the enterprise and work with geographically diverse locations.

Critical Skills & Experiences:

* 8+ years of experience working in Payment or POS solutions.
* Understand payment echo systems including authorization, settlement, reconciliation, new account acquisition and credit service functions.
* Understanding of retail merchant's interactions with banking partners card processing.
* Working knowledge of web based transaction processing for card not present environment.
* SME Technical knowledge of NonStop, Mainframe, Cobal, C++, Java, Weblogic, Oracle dB, SQL on NonStop.
* 5+ years of experience developing in Java technologies with equivalent experience in systems analysis, OO design, OO programming and debugging skills
* 5+ years of Java Spring Framework development
* 5+ years of J2EE and relational database experience (preferably Oracle)
* 2+ years of NoSQL experience (preferably Cassandra)
* 3+ years of ecommerce experience (preferably in retail)
* 3+ years of cloud computing experience (preferably AWS)
* Experience developing and using RESTful APIs (preferably micro services)
* Experience with UNIX/Linux command line and shell scripting
* Experience working in cross-functional Agile/Scrum teams
* Knowledge of PCI compliance
* Excellent presentation and communication skills.
