Responsibilities

WHAT DOES A LEAD COMPUTER ASSISTANT DO?

As a Lead Computer Assistant you will serve in the role of a team leader. You will explore opportunities for improvement and coach team members in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with some of the latest technologies, and support the resolution of complex and challenges issues. You will also carry out a full range of administrative and technical assistance activities by telephone, correspondence, and/or in person. This work is critical in that it affects the efficiency of processing services, adequacy of products used in subsequent activities, and processing procedures and methods in the IRS campuses nationwide.

As a Lead Computer Assistant you will:

* Communicate the assignment projects, problems to be solved, actionable events, program issues under review, and time frames for completion.
* Coach the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques.
* Monitor and report on the status and progress of work, and assist the team in identifying the parameters of viable solutions.
* Maintain program and administrative reference materials, project files, and relevant background documents.
* Report periodically on team work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks and training needs.
* Research, learn, and apply a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods to identify, assess, analyze, and improve team effectiveness, efficiency and work products.
* Lead the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses and provide leadership in exploring alternatives and determining what improvements can be made (e.g., in work methods, processes and procedures).

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-11 LEVEL: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes knowledge of standard rules and procedures to resolve software and hardware processing issues; Extensive knowledge of the features, characteristics and interrelationships of multiple types of computer equipment, application and utility programs, internal computer processes and magnetic media in order to resolve operating problems and malfunctions; Knowledge of a wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures and principles to identify required actions and implement decisions; Knowledge of agency regulations, directives and procedures which govern the establishment, maintenance and retention of office files, requisition of supplies, equipment to ensure smooth workflow of all administrative support activities; Knowledge of data content and output options used in electronic document management and media management. In addition, you should have the ability to operate a variety of office automation equipment and software, such as desk top computers, digital signature and form definition software, as well as varied electronic document management systems to produce and distribute work products; Knowledge of oral and written communication methods and techniques sufficient to effectively explain and communicate technical and procedural information clearly and precisely.

* The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or VolunteerService. One year of experience refers to full-timework; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following, if applicable:
