The Thomson Reuters Financial & Practice Management Solutions group (FPMS) is the premier provider of financial and matter management systems to the legal industry. The Lead Cloud Operations Engineer will lead an operations team in the FPMS technology organization. The FPMS organization develops new cloud solutions and cloud versions of on-premises solutions in a suite of FPMS products. The focus of this team is the production operations for these products hosted in Azure.

In this position you will get to work with new technologies, shape operations procedures, and influence architecture and technology choices for a suite of cloud solutions that are in the early days of production deployment.

This lead must be a motivated, self-driven, and naturally inquisitive problem solver who loves building and supporting solutions that leverage the latest technologies. This position requires an individual fully comfortable with the Microsoft and related technologies, including Windows and SQL Servers, Azure, Active Directory (and AAD), IIS, and PowerShell, as well as DNS, SMTP, SFTP. This individual in this role should also be experience utilizing and supporting virtualization technologies and operating in a highly secured environment. Strong familiarity with a broad range of Enterprise-class services, such as storage, anti-virus, backup, and monitoring solutions is desired.

The ideal candidate is a proven leader among their peers and has a reputation as the "go-to" person for questions about new technologies or guidance during business-critical situations. They possess a good mix of technical and "soft" skills which makes for a key resource on global enterprise projects. Successful candidates in this role tear down silos between teams, promoting open and free communication between peers and those in different groups. Candidates must have over five years of progressive working experience, building and supporting enterprise-class technical solutions and three years in a senior or lead position.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead the Cloud Operations team in all aspects of operating a production, hosted product in the cloud (Azure). This includes performing and evolving the standards for resource provisioning, deployments, troubleshooting, monitoring, alerting, configuration management, access management, working with other teams (including development, client services, product management, security) in a CI/CD environment (in this case leveraging Azure DevOps).
* Champion (with diplomacy) operational interests when challenged by demands from other teams and confidently say "no" when appropriate. This includes working with development to ensure CI/CD pipelines meet operational requirements.
* Communicate effectively (a critical skill) to ensure accuracy of work, requirements are met, and expectations are set.
* Work with product management, client services and support to plan releases, upgrades and maintenance activities.
* Build, maintain, and tune Microsoft cloud infrastructure (including hybrid PaaS/IaaS) with emphasis on systems performance, high availability, security, and technology integration.
* Collaborate with teams building Azure Infrastructure-As-Code (Azure DevOps/TFS/GIT).
* Configure and administer a wide array of IaaS and PaaS/SaaS-based enterprise solutions including storage, telemetry, message queueing, and search.
* Automate common or complex tasks via scripting (PowerShell, VBScript, Python, etc.)
* Lead the team in efforts to create, maintain, and document operations standards
* Lead the team in efforts gather operational requirements and evaluate, present, implement, integrate, and document solutions for operations relating to new business initiatives.
* Assist in planning and executing plans for disaster recovery, information security, and business continuity.
* Monitor environment performance and capacity, forecast system demands, and recommend upgrades, expansions, and reconfigurations.
* Perform software installations, patching, and upgrades to operating systems and third-party software applications, filling in automation gaps, where appropriate.
* Troubleshoot system problems and take appropriate corrective action to include interacting with team members, partners or technology vendors in performing complex testing, support, and troubleshooting functions.
* Maintain technical competency through self-guided study, structured training, and attendance at technical seminars and forums.
* Participate with peers in the on-call rotation to provide support and troubleshooting assistance

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

(Core)

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar, relevant technical certification, or related professional work experience.
* Five to seven years' experience in Windows systems operations and support.
* Three to five years' experience in a senior or lead position.
* Fundamental knowledge of Azure, Active Directory, IIS, MS-SQL, DNS, PKI, STMP, and FTP.
* Methodical and insightful troubleshooting skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Strong written and oral communication, including the ability to express complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Motivated self-starter, reliable, dedicated, with scheduling flexibility.

(Strongly preferred)

* Experience building Infrastructure-As-Code.
* Experience deploying and supporting resources in Azure.
* Expertise with system and performance monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, SolarWinds, AppDynamics, Log Analytics).
* Highly experienced using at least one scripting language (PowerShell, VBScript, Python, etc.).

* Development skills in Java or C#
