Overview

Selective is seeking a dynamic person who develops business intelligence and advanced analytics solutions of well-defined routine business problems with a high level of reliability, execution and speed using tools such as Informatica, Cognos, Hive, Python, Microsoft BI and SQL scripts.

Responsibilities

* Meet with business unit representatives to define and evaluate Information and analytic needs. Interpret business specifications to prepare for analysis/design functions.
* Work closely with Data Scientists and Analysts to perform data engineering tasks using tools like SQL, Informatica, Python, Hive, SSIS etc.
* Create and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical database models.
* Participate in systems analysis, general systems design, and detail systems design.
* Modify existing applications programs or writes new programs of basic to moderate complexity and scope, working with applications systems designs and specifications and utilizing standards, procedures, and techniques.
* Provide production support as needed both during and after normal business hours.
* Assist higher-level programmers in the development of complex programs.
* Assist others with debugging whenever necessary.
* Identify Business Intelligence technology trends and explore opportunities for use within the organization.
* Responsible to acquire training, as needed, and will learn user functions, organization, and role in the enterprise to the extent required.

Qualifications

* Strong analytic and problem solving abilities
* Quick learning skills
* Good understanding of QA processes in IT development
* Ability to work closely with business users
* Ability to translate business needs into business requirements and specifications
* Experience diagnosing problems and troubleshooting production issues
* Project lifecycle implementation experience
* Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently with minimal supervision as well as work in a team environment
* Strong written and verbal skills are a must for this position
* Experience or knowledge of programming languages like Python, R or Java preferred
* Experience or knowledge of Big Data Hadoop environment preferred
* Property Casualty Insurance experience preferred. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Science, Business Administration or related field preferred.
* 1 to 2 years of experience in work on developing IT solutions
