IT Security Specialist

We are seeking an IT Security Specialist to join our project team in building, implementing and securing enterprise grade software systems.

Responsibilities/Duties:

* Respond to and coordinate with government security specialists to assess and ensure custom developed and COTS IT systems meet applicable security standards
* Participate in ongoing Security Assessments for each application, including providing support to achieve and maintain an Authority to Operate, and respond to and/or resolve security issues identified in POA&M and Security Assessment Report documents
* Perform risk analyses to determine and recommend essential safeguards
* Proactively mitigate system vulnerabilities and recommend compensating controls
* Determine and analyze security requirements for implementation and testing
* Review and continuously monitor implemented security controls
* Coordinate with the government Security team to conduct independent scans of application, network and database
* Develop security authorization documents such as System Security Plan, Contingency Plan, Incident Response Plan, Standard Operating Procedures, Plan of Actions and Milestones, Remediation Plans, Configuration Management Plan, etc.
* Create and maintain security checklists, templates and other tools to aid in the assessment and authorization process
* Plan and track security activities in coordination with the project and government security teams
* Respond to and assist with resolving security breaches and issues related to any supported Systems
* Participate in Annual Contingency Planning exercises, resolve any issues identified, and provide input to complete the annual Contingency Plan document and Business Impact Analysis.
* Support testing of system and data backup and recovery as needed
* Provide monthly lists of active user accounts for each system
* Provide data for the semi-annual User Access Review reports
* Respond to ad-hoc data requests, such as audit information, to support review of security concerns
* Implement data masking to secure PII
* Provide guidance and instruction to ensure staff have an understanding and awareness of cybersecurity policies and procedures and their individual responsibilities.
* Educate internal and client stakeholders on information security trends and best practices

Required Qualifications

Required Skills:

* 5+ years of experience in an IT Security Specialist role
* In-depth knowledge and experience with the full range of federal information security and privacy law, policy, standards, regulations and guidelines including the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), Office of Management and Budget Circulars A123 and A-130, National Institute of Standards and Technology SP800-53 security standards, and regulations issued by the National Archives and Records Administration.

Education/Certification Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline

Clearance Requirements:

* U.S. Citizen or permanent resident and meet 3-year US residency requirement with the ability to attain a Public Trust clearance
