Job Purpose

National Grid recognized as a leader in the Utilities and Energy industry, is offering excellent career and growth opportunities. Our IT Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) Generation department is currently looking for an IT Systems Engineer who will have responsibility in designing and executing IT functions.

Key Accountabilities

* Support the overall operation of National Grid's mission critical infrastructure for Generation operations.
* Develop own ideas, or the ideas of others, making all the necessary observations and tests and carrying them through to a full practical demonstration, wherever viable and feasible.
* Identify and respond to the key business drivers and areas of business need.
* Review and contribute to new business proposals and provides specialist advice accordingly.
* Support IT infrastructure for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Distributed Controls System (DCS) functions.
* Participate as a project technical resource to establish standards, content, and procedures for CNI documentation in accordance with company and industry best practices for real-time and power generation systems.
* Update and create documentation as a contributor to NERC CIP compliance deliverables as a subject matter expert.
* Conduct post implementation reviews of information and communications technology applications and products introduced in pursuit of the strategy, to assess the extent to which expected business benefits were realized.



Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering and/or 5+ years of relevant experience.
* Understanding of LAN/WAN networking concepts, topologies and protocols.
* Working knowledge of Windows/Active Directory.
* Must possess strong writing, verbal communication and documentation skills and the ability to achieve and communicate with a sense of urgency.
* Ability to develop project plans, set goals/objectives, and prioritize.
* Strong troubleshooting & problem-solving skills.

Familiarity with the following is desirable

* Anti-Malware tools and strategies
* Network/systems security and information security concepts and technologies.
* Linux operating systems
* Risk/vulnerability assessment methodologies
* Information protection strategies
* Disaster recovery planning
* Change management and control
* Identity and access management
* System development life cycle implementation steps for transitioning to production
* Best practices in securing critical IT infrastructures
* Regulatory Compliance Standards (i.e.. Sarbanes-Oxley, NERC-CIP, PCI, etc.)
* Basic knowledge of power station operation is an advantage
