Responsibilities

* Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of computer systems, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures and tools.
* Investigates security incidents, hacker attacks, attempted break-ins to network hardware and servers for cause and recommends most effective corrective actions.
* Keeps abreast of new technology (e.g., security products, software development tools and techniques) that have a bearing on security functions and evaluates their impact.
* Researches virus and intrusion violations and coordinates the resolution with telecommunications specialists and LAN administrators and emergency response team members as needed.
* Develops policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Time in grade: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-(12) grade level for consideration for the GS-13 grade level).

For this position, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four

competencies listed below.

1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the

services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses

sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

AND

Specialized Experience: One full-time year of Information Technology (Information Security) experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service or private sector that demonstrates knowledge of IT systems development life cycle management concepts to include technical documentation methods and procedures; experience leading IT system development projects from design to support evaluating the effectiveness of system and services and devising solution to a wide range of IT issues. In addition, knowledge of, and skill in applying IT security principles, methods and tools, within the security environment to analyze and assess information security controls.

MANDATORY SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: You must possess a CompTIA Security+ certification, NIST Cybersecurity Framework (NCSF) Practitioner certification, a certification from one of the following organizations International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium ((ISC)2), Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), Federal IT Security (FITSI), SANS Institute Global Information Assurance Certification (SANS GIAC), EC-Council, or college undergraduate level training, or education in cybersecurity.
