Position Description

The IT Intern - supports the IT department across various disciplines: LAN / WAN, Wireless, Security, Remedy Support, RydeSmart, Service Desk, PC Lab and as assigned. The duration of this internship is between two and three months and is temporary in nature.

Roles and Responsibilities for Intern Migration Control

Position is for up to 8 months@ 15.00/hr, requires a mature individual. Preference is for Advanced Student or Masters Candidate.

Responsibilities include:Evaluate effect of change on infrastructure, applications and customer solutions. Communicate across all levels of the organization via phone, email etc.Manage and administer internal and external applications to record and schedule projects and changes within the Ryder environment.Need:Understanding of relational databases and ODBC connectionsProficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint, and the ability to use pivot tables to create reports and manipulate data as well as create and manage documentation of process. Knowledge of Visio is a plus.High level understanding of technical infrastructure and solutionsRapidly respond to emergency or quick turn-around situations and obtain approvals from all levels of managementWould like knowledge of:

Change Management Toolsa. Remedyb. Migration ControlToolsa. Subversion (preferred)b. Microsoft Team Foundationc. OtherUnderstanding and knowledge of:IT Infrastructure LibraryMS WindowsUnix/Linux (optional)Knowledge of SQL/PS-SQL and Oracle Experience with Web ServicesExperience with Web tools such as Weblogic, iPlanet, TomCat, ApacheTasks and abilities:• Stay ahead of email and voicemail• Think forward and evaluate process and tools for process improvement efforts• Communicate requirements to technical teams, vendors and support organization. i.e. help desk and level 2 and 3 support teams.• Detail oriented and flexible• Provide user support of process and tools• Participate or hold training sessions on process and tools• Provide weekly status reports management• Host daily conference calls in order to communicate changeParticipate in weekly HP Change Authorization Board, provide status of changes which require HP participation or support, and approval meetingsAttend Technical Reviews of changes to better understand and evaluate impact to the business.Create and distribute Weekly, Monthly and Yearly Compliance and status reporting.

Requirements

* Must have completed at least four (4) semesters of college or university curriculum and be currently enrolled toward a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, CIS, DIS, MIS or related field

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Strong customer focus and the ability to effectively communicate with management, co-workers and customers
* Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload efficiently and effectively
* Work well under pressure, successfully meet schedules, work independently while interacting with personnel from differing management levels and produce high quality work with minimal supervision
* Strong PC and Software product skills (Windows, MS Office, MS Project, MS Excel), analytical and problem solving skills
* Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
* This position is temporary and may or may not lead to a full time position

Responsibilities

Some duties may include:

* Working on project based assignments
* Will participate with teams of IT staff and, on a limited basis, client department personnel in the development, implementation and maintenance of computer
* Based information systems; to install, trouble shoot, maintain and modify computer and network system software; and to perform related duties as assigned
