Job Description

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a HWIL Facility System Administrator to join our RF Engineering & Development group.

Job Summary: Plan, develop, install, maintain and upgrade the computing/network infrastructure and associated security requirements for multiple closed area complex HWIL facilities. Tasks include COTS computer and software installation and maintenance, specialized software development, custom computer and custom interface development, compliance with INFOSEC policies up to and including TS/SCIF operation.

Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):

* Plan, install and maintain computing systems, operating systems, software, and networks within closed area HWIL facilities, in compliance with the Risk Management Framework. Manage windows and other network servers. (90%)


* Develop and maintain plans for facility emergency/crisis management and recovery procedures such as natural disasters. Implement Department and Laboratory policies related to backup/storage and network connectivity. (10%)



Required Qualifications:

* BSEE, BSCS (or equivalent experience) with at least 3 years of professional experience.


* Ability to troubleshoot complex problems in mixed computer networks of Linux and Windows systems.


* Experience in systems administration inside a HWIL environment where both tactical and standard computing systems co-exist.


* Ability to obtain DoD 8570.01-M Approved Baseline Certifications under IAT Level I within six months of hire. The ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance is required, with a minimum of an active Secret clearance to start. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.



Desired Qualifications:

* Demonstrated leadership skills in the system administration and security management of image processing, signal processing, RF or related HWIL facilities.


* NISPOM security and FSO training.


* Experience in classified computing facilities.


* Risk Management Framework experience and training.


* Experience in writing software based drivers and in developing custom computer interface cards to marry customer HW to simulations and emulations in support of a HWIL type facility.
