Job Description

Our quantitative investment business depends on productive trading models that start as insights about financial markets. To develop, test, and refine those ideas, our researchers need fast, flexible, and highly reliable computing clusters. We're looking for someone who's passionate about all things HPC to help us enhance our clusters and build our next platform.

Our ideal HPC Systems Engineer can squeeze every drop of performance out of today's infrastructure (without compromising its stability), while preparing us for tomorrow with best-fit technology. Joining a small team of HPC experts, the person in this role will collaborate with the developers creating tools and applications for our HPC environment, as well as with the researchers who rely on it. This position is a terrific opportunity for an HPC engineer who enjoys quick feedback loops and finding uncommon ways to optimize systems.

Why join us? PDT Partners has a stellar twenty-four-year track record and a reputation for excellence. Our goal is to be the best quantitative investment manager in the world-measured by the quality of our products, not their size. PDT's very high employee-retention rate speaks for itself. Our people are intellectually extraordinary and our community is close-knit, down-to-earth, and diverse.

Responsibilities:

* Continually improve the performance of our HPC infrastructure and file systems, covering everything from networking and storage to scheduling and specific cluster workloads.
* Design and deploy creative solutions to complex hardware, Linux, and file-system issues.
* Anticipate (and convince others of) our future HPC needs, then ensure that we're ready for them.
* Engineer with the goal of 24/7 uptime, while promptly resolving incidents and preventing them from happening again.
* Partner with our developers and researchers to fine-tune our HPC systems for their software, data, analysis, and modeling.

Qualifications:

* 2-6 years of highly relevant experience.
* Excellent Linux systems administration skills.
* Strong knowledge of HPC schedulers, provisioning systems, and scalable storage.
* Advanced scripting or programming skills (C/C++, Python, Perl, and/or UNIX shell).

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field from a strong academic program.
