Job Description

As a Functional Garments Researcher on the Facebook Reality Labs team, you will be working on the cutting edge of wearable technology for augmented and virtual interfaces. You will work alongside experts in tracking, haptics, machine perception, and many other disciplines, to create the technology that will change the world.

You will be responsible for working with engineering and design to advance the state of the art for garment-based devices for interactions in AR/VR. This position is full-time and based in Redmond, WA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Design, develop and manufacture garment-based wearable devices for interfacing with AR/VR



Create strategies for integrating new textiles, soft materials, novel sensors, flexible circuits and custom actuators into garments

Work with designers, perceptual scientists and engineers to explore and enable high-value AR/VR interactions

Thrive in a dynamic, ambiguous, fast-paced, and cross-disciplinary environment

Produce high value prototypes showcasing value and applications of research

Connect and drive collaborations with academic labs, industry labs, and textile manufacturers, to advance research in relevant areas

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* PhD in an engineering discipline related to wearable devices for interaction



4+ years knowledge in functional clothing and garment/cut-and-sew manufacturing

4+ years experience working with wearable sensors/actuators

4+ years experience with materials and approaches to soft goods construction such as textiles or silicone

Publication record and knowledge of academic communities in manufacturing, human computer interaction, wearable robotics, and others

A track record of publications, and presentations to technical audiences

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience in custom fit and anthropometrics



Expertise in CAD pattern-drawing systems
