LS Technologies, LLC is supporting the FAA's initiative to stand up new systems and capabilities for small UAS (sUAS) mostly recreational and commercial drones operating in the NAS. LAANC is one example of these new capabilities. The trend is for FAA sUAS programs to utilize cloud-based software and services to establish data exchanges that link FAA personnel, commercial partners, and UAS pilots/operators and automate as many aspects as possible. This job addresses a range of systems engineering needs at the program office level: conduct concept development, evaluate system alternatives, write and manage requirements, oversee test/deployment/monitoring, assist program management with analysis, documents, presentations, etc., and manage concerns such as safety and security.

Responsibilities

* Define and manage cloud-based systems (software/infrastructure architectures) concepts, alternatives, analysis, requirements.
* Manage software development pipeline prioritizing work packages, tracking development effort, facilitating handoff to formal test, change management for builds, bugs, etc.
* Contribute to overseeing system deployment metrics, interacting with system users, etc.
* Provide engineering support to safety processes (SRM) and security analysis.
* Assist in qualifying industry partners to participate in system-to-system FAA architectures joint validation, establishing and verifying against high-level constraints, quality assurance, etc.
* Preparing design documents and presentations. Clearly describing the design, including rationale for decision and implications of decisions.
* Providing systems analysis and performance monitoring for security and availability; planning for mitigation of critical infrastructure.
* Contribute to system documentation such as ConOps, ConUse, Requirements, System Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, Interface Control Documents, Test Plans, Evaluation Reports, etc.

Requirements

* Minimum of 5-10 years experience in system engineering.
* Able to succeed in a fast-paced team environment: master new information quickly, respond to direction shifts, manage knowns and unknowns, work with various types of colleagues (technical, management, operations, etc.).
* Particular experience/competence with software systems, cloud infrastructure, integrated databases, web protocols.
* Particular experience/competence with commercial drones, UAS regulations, aviation.
* FAA experience preferable.
* Manage multiple projects.
* Proven interpersonal skills.
* Excellent writing, oral communication and organizational skills.
* Experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Education

* Bachelor's Degree in related field required, advanced degree preferred.

Travel

* 0 - 20% (in DC), 10-30% (remote)
