About

Job Description

Designs, analyzes, plans and modifies internal company networks. Tests and analyzes network facilities, including network control software, routers, switches, lines, modems, adapters and servers. Ensures optimum integration level of software products, infrastructure, and data based on business needs, communications systems, and evolving technologies. Develops and evaluates network performance criteria and measurement methods. Provides basic technical support / part replacement and problem resolution for external clients at a customer's location or data center environment. Such activities may include the following as well as other duties as assigned:

Principal Responsibilities:

* Provides technical data/voice support to users
* Work may be performed at a customer's location or in a data center environment.
* Performs data/voice troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose network problems
* Analyzes network needs and recommends changes in design and/or procedures
* Contributes to the design of data/voice network architectures and integrations
* Evaluates data/voice hardware and software requirements and capabilities and makes appropriate recommendations based on findings
* Installs, configures, tests, and troubleshoots network hardware and software
* Establishes secure environments for networks being installed
* Gathers statistics on performance capacity and availability

Qualifications, Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities and Working Conditions:

* Foundational knowledge of technical principles, concepts and standards acquired via academic instruction and/or relevant work experience of substantially the same level.
* Develops solutions to defined tasks, typical problems and projects appropriate in scope and complexity. May be solved by the application of specialized technical knowledge, concepts or theories.
* Work is usually performed independently and requires the exercise of judgment and discretion. Receives initial direction and work may be reviewed for accuracy and quality.
* Interacts mostly with immediate management, project leaders and other professionals within the department or function.
* Actions typically affect own work assignments and department but erroneous decisions or failure to accomplish work may require some assistance or resources from within the department to remedy.

Experience:

* Typically less than 2 years with bachelor's or equivalent

Education/Certification:

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Distinguishing Characteristics:

* Preferred - HP Certifications
* Plus - VMware VCP, Cisco UCS, Network+, Server+, HP-AIS, Nimble, Riverbed, NetApp, Radisys.
* Travel for training and client support typically 10 - 20%
* Cisco CCNA or equivalent level certification preferred
* Experience supporting IP routing, switching and network protocols
* Working knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and wireless access points
* Experience troubleshooting physical and logical network connectivity issues
