Introduction:

The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (JH APL), an independent, nationally recognized nonprofit organization that conducts essential research, development, prototyping, analysis, integration, and systems engineering to address national security challenges is seeking an innovative Engagement Systems Engineer and Analyst in the Command, Control, and Communications Systems Group. Our technical staff take pride in achieving practical, operationally sound solutions to complex challenges of national defense, with a focus on innovation, game-changing capabilities, effectiveness, affordability, and timeliness.

Job Summary:

Perform engagement coordination, weapon control, and interoperability analyses in support of the Nation's integrated air and missile defense capabilities. Develop concepts for next-generation advanced capabilities, conduct systems analyses, perform trade studies, and develop requirements for integrated air and missile defense systems-of-systems in dynamic, complex, multi-threat raid environments.

Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):

* Perform detailed analyses of engagement coordination, weapon control, and systems interoperability. Propose innovative new concepts for next-generation automated battle management algorithms and tactical decision aids. Participate in concept development teams and analysis working groups to discuss results, novel concepts, alternatives, solutions, requirements, and approaches for integrated air and missile defense and advanced coordination capabilities.


* Perform predictive analyses of new capabilities and support tests of advanced capabilities.
* Develop and assess novel prototypes and modify tools, models, and simulations in support of analysis efforts.
* Deliver formal presentations to Sponsors and the engineering community and effectively communicate proposed concepts, solutions, and engineering results. Produce documentation to capture concept definitions, system requirements, technical recommendations, and analysis results.

Required Qualifications:

* BS in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or equivalent.
* Minimum of five years' experience in systems engineering and experience in at least one of the following: engagement coordination, weapon control, decision theory, mathematical methods, resource allocation, human-machine interactions, operations research, or optimization methodologies.
* Experience and interest in systems engineering, analysis, modeling, and simulation.
* Experience using Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
* Experience working successfully within a team environment.
* Interest in working in a multi-discipline, multi-organization team environment. Strong oral and written communication skills. Willingness to travel.
* Active SECRET clearance or ability to obtain INTERIM SECRET clearance

Desired Qualifications:

* MS or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or equivalent.
* Ten years experience in weapon control, engagement coordination, human-machine interactions, operations research, systems engineering, analysis, modeling, and simulation.
* Five or more years experience in Integrated Air and Missile Defense, Aegis Combat System, Naval Weapons Systems, Ballistic Missile Defense, Cruise Missile Defense, and anti-ship missile defense.
* Three or more years experience in decision theory, optimal control methodologies, mathematical methods, and resource allocation.
* Three or more years experience developing modeling and simulation software, proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C . Active TOP SECRET clearance.

Special Working Conditions: Travel (up to 15%) to local and remote Government and contractor facilities for meetings and reviews as necessary. Travel to support test events involving extended or evening hours, travel aboard ships and to field site activities.

Security: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
