At Lyft, community is what we are and it's what we do. It's what makes us different. To create the best ride for all, we start in our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization where all team members are recognized for what they bring.

Lyft's Research Science Team builds mathematical models underpinning the platform's core services. With our new Bikes & Scooters team we're building the world's best micromobility user experiences powered by a bulletproof product and data-driven operations. We're looking for seasoned senior scientists and embedded systems engineers experienced in hardware or electric mobility and comfortable spinning up sensor and detection models from ideation to production. With these models we will be able to improve Lyft's street operations, support technology-driven regulation, provide vital data to our city partners, and provide unique new experiences to our riders. The ideal candidate will be able to work cross-functionally with existing Bikes & Scooters orgs and enjoys the challenges of a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

* Work with Engineers, Product Managers, Ops teams, and Business Partners to frame problems, both mathematically and within the business context.
* Perform exploratory data analysis to gain a deeper understanding of the problem
* Construct and fit statistical, machine learning, or optimization models
* Write production modeling code; collaborate with Software Engineers to implement algorithms in production
* Design and run both simulated and live in-production experiments
* Analyze experimental and observational data; communicate findings; facilitate launch decisions

Experience & Skills:

* M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Experimental Physics, or other quantitative hardware-oriented fields
* 4+ years professional experience
* Passion for solving unstructured and non-standard mathematical and sensing problems
* End-to-end experience with embedded systems development around sensing and sensor fusion, including sensor evaluation, data extraction, model development, firmware implementation, field testing, and manufacturing support
* Proficiency with C/C++, firmware development, RTOS (desired), or other embedded development tools and frameworks
* Enthusiastic to collaborate and communicate with others to solve a problem
