The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is a national leader in scientific research and development. APL is actively seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer, for the Electrical Engineering Systems Analysis & Design Group. The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC.

Job Summary:

The Electrical Engineering Systems Analysis and Design Group, in the Research and Exploratory Development Department, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated embedded systems engineer. The Embedded Systems Engineer should be interested in working on a high-energy, collaborative team that creates novel embedded systems solutions for a variety of applications. Hands-on hardware and software engineering expertise will be applied, and a variety of system modeling tools will be employed to design, simulate, implement, and test these systems.

Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):

1.Electronic design, including systems, circuits, modeling, simulation, component selection, and testing.

2.System requirements derivation, training, and travel for field work.

3.System documentation as required, writing and presenting papers internally and externally.

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelors' of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or other related technical field.
* At least 3-6 years of relevant professional experience in Embedded Systems Engineering.
* Experience with embedded hardware and software development, and design/test of hardware/software systems.
* Hands on experience designing and prototyping electronic circuitry that employs FPGAs, DSP processors, microcontrollers, sensors, and power supplies.
* Fluency in C and VHDL or Verilog, experience with modeling and simulation tools such as SPICE, MATLAB/SIMULINK.
* Familiarity with the operation of test and measurement equipment for electronic systems.
* Excellent communication skills, the ability to document and publish designs and results, and the ability to multitask effectively.

Desired Qualifications:

* Masters' of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
* Experience with Linux and real time operating systems.
* Experience with Python, MATLAB, and Digital Signal Processing.
* Experience in analog circuit design and simulation.
* Experience with low-power microcontrollers including ARM processors.

Special Working Conditions: Occasional work in closed areas and cleanroom facilities.
