What we are looking for:

The Director of Database Administration is responsible for leading the database strategy across the enterprise. The successful candidate will be capable of working at both a strategic and tactical level, with experience in implementing scalable solutions in a complex global environment as well as resolving day to day physical and logical issues. We are looking for a knowledgeable, competent, team player that can lead our database strategy as we expand globally.

What you will do:

* Provide strategic database solutions ensuring database performance, security, scalability and resiliency, while working closely with colleagues across the organization to do so.
* Design new and modify existing database systems to accommodate rapidly changing organization requirements in coordination with other Departments.
* Prepare users by conducting training; providing information; resolving problems.
* Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities.
* Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
* Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
* Manage a team of DBAs, ensuring goal setting, career development, performance management and other people management duties.

Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
* 10+ years of demonstrated experience as a DBA, preferably in MySQL, Postgres, SqlServer.
* Proven success in implementing advanced database solutions in a MySQL environment (distributed systems such as sharding, etc...)
* Successful experience in leading a DBA team.
* Experience as a thought leader and innovator in the development of new tools, methodologies and problem-solving approaches.
* Deep understanding and demonstrated ability to adapt to complex business environments and situations.
* Broad understanding of latest Database trends and their impact on business strategies and operations.
* Demonstrated experience defining, motivating and driving change at executive level and across stakeholders.

Preferred skills and competencies:

* Knowledge beyond the database, familiarity with an entire webstack.
* Experienced in database performance tuning, SQL performance tuning, security, automation and process improvement.
* Comfortable recommending and presenting solutions to senior level management.
* Well versed in SQL development with advanced ANSI SQL skills (10+ years).
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
