Job Description

MITRE is seeking a senior-level, experienced DevOps strategic advisor that will assist MITRE's sponsors with establishing DevOps strategies and roadmaps, as well as build execution teams to implement software factories.

Key Functions of the role:

Strategize with executive sponsors regarding the establishment of software factories.

Develop comprehensive, economically viable implementation roadmaps for instantiating effective DevOps tool chains that improve the efficient development and deployment of production-quality software applications.

Lead red-team/blue team independent technical assessments focused on identifying cause of failing DevOps automation.

Author market-leading, peer reviewed, thought provoking advisory materials which advance the state-of-the-art software factories.

Assemble and maintain a compendium of technical guidance regarding software code management, quality code assessments, automated test strategies, expedited government regulation compliance, continuous development practices, continuous deployment mechanisms, etc. related to operating world-class software factories.

Partner closely with software development teams and infrastructure delivery teams responsible for building and supporting CI/CD platforms, environment buildout and support, software build and releases, automation solutions, installing and configuring application software, and upkeep of systems through patching and upgrades.

Provide strategic guidance to adopting programs to define and manage software and build and releases for multiple applications. Identify root cause critical issues to help expand the capacity and performance of the systems.

Experience with SDLC pipelines for a variey of end-point applications and systems architectures, tooling requirements and pipeline integration, and deployment provisioning.

Liaison experience with stakeholders across the development, testing, security, and operations communities, and accomplishments in breaking down silos among these communities.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree and 15 years of related experience, with a technical major in computer science or software engineering.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven track record of public speaking and/or published works.

Substantial experience fielding commercial quality software applications for a spectrum of information processing types (e.g. not simply web-based, database-backed applications

Excellent hand-on software development skills using a spectrum of programming languages, including object-oriented, functional, procedural, declarative, etc.

Expertise in a variety of software development methodologies (continuous, agile, incremental, waterfall, FDD, TDD, TSP, model-based development, etc.).

Expertise with continuous integration and continuous delivery workflows and tools.

Experience with version control systems, such as Git, etc., and with Infrastructure-as-Code practices.

Leadership expertise with IT infrastructure automation, to include container management tools (e.g., Docker Swarm, Kubernetes) and/or infrastructure as code tools (e.g., Chef, Puppet, Ansible)

Expertise in automated testing, test frameworks and tools, & experience building comprehensive test strategies.

Experience with various production infrastructures including virtualization (e.g. VMware, AWS, Azure, Hyper-V, etc.), cloud computing, cluster computing, grid computing, etc.

Ability to adapt to technical change, to include a strong desire to learn new technologies, processes, and tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional security clearances beyond/in-addition-to Secret, such as Top Secret; DHS Suitability; IRS MBI; etc.
