Job Description

The DevOps Lead (Programmer VI) position reports to the Director of Product Delivery. We are seeking a driven and innovative DevOps Lead to join our growing team and drive our continued adoption of DevOps. In this role, you will work to insure Agile teams across Java, .Net, and Salesforce adopt DevOps by building out the tools and practices required.

The position is responsible for the acquisition of tools and services required to automate the Software Developmnet Life Cycle (SDLC) of an Agile team. This role will work within a solution delivery team and would provide leadership through hands-on work to integrate the tools and practices into the existing software product and team. A successful individual in this role would have a balanced mix of technical and business skills that would be utilized to find solutions that balance pragmatism and innovation. Lastly, the individual would be proficient in defining and leading the execution of a multi-year DevOps roadmap covering both green field and existing systems, services, and platforms across Java, .Net and Salesforce.

Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Builds the framework that aligns technology, resources, and skills with defined business goals.

Essential Job Functions:

Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Matches available DevOps tools and practices with the existing software product and teams. Defines features and phases of the delivery of both tools and practices. Provides specifications according to which the solution is defined, managed, and delivered. (40%).

Provides hands-on implementation and delivery within an existing software delivery team of the required DevOps toolset and practices. (40%)

Mentors, educates, and trains colleagues as requested. Keeps skills updated and remains proactively aware of current events in the industry. (20%)

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of industry best practices for DevOps.

Knowledge of Agile/Scrum.

Knowledge of Source Code Management Tools such as GitHub or BitBucket.

Knowledge of industry best practices for Cybersecurity and related tools such as BlackDuck or Vericode.

Knowledge of Continuous Integration Tools such as Jenkins.

Knowledge of Cloud (AWS, Azure or equivalent).

Knowledge of Containers such as Docker.

Knowledge of Automated Testing Tools such as Selenium or Squish.

Knowledge of Automated Configuration Tools such as Chef or Puppet.

Knowledge of Automated Deployment Tools such as uDeploy.

Knowledge of Kubernetes.

Knowledge of Monitoring Tools such as AppDynamics or Nagios.

Knowledge of Static Code Scanning Tools such as SonarQube.

Knowledge of ELK.

Skill in creating a solution prototype.

Skill in developing software in Java or .Net.

Skill in troubleshooting, performance tuning, and problem-solving.

Skill in verbal, written, and presentation communication.

Skill in project and resource management.

Ability to provide excellent customer service.

Ability to build consensus across multiple teams.

Ability to accurately track time spent working on projects, as well the ability to accurately estimate changes or enhancements.

Ability to work in a department of a Texas state agency that has statewide or broad oversight responsibilities.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

Initial Selection Criteria:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in computer science, information technology, software engineering, or a related field. Appropriate experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Minimum 10 (ten) years' experience in the analysis and design of enterprise systems based in Java or .Net.

Minimum 5 (five) years' experience in DevOps.
