Description

SAIC is seeking qualified candidates to support National Library of Medicine (NLM) Office of Computer and Communications Systems (OCCS) for IT technical support services, systems engineering and architecture, application development, and facilities management.

The Desktop Software Engineer performs as a technical specialist responsible for preparing, deploying and managing corporate desktop software, manages group policies. Shall have strong technical experience with: maintenance, repair, upgrades, and configuration of hardware, software and operating systems in an inter-networked environment. Responsible for engineering, building, and creating processes to maintain PC builds. Possess strong scripting language skills in VBScript, windows batch, automated software deployment and patching. Familiar with group policy objects, Active Directory, Domain Name Service. Shall be experienced with desktop standards, software deployment techniques and tools, and data integrity and recovery. Activities will require substantial contact with users of all levels: IT Service Center staff, network, and other technical staff, all requiring effective interpersonal and written English communication skills. May participate in planning and analysis efforts related to hardware/software deployment. May participate in efforts to evaluate, test and introduce new technology and approaches. Plans and executes tasks in conjunction with other system managers and Government staff. Follows approved procedures and quality standards.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

At least five (5) years of full-time technical experience in:

* software distribution, management of group policies
* troubleshooting interconnected small desktop systems

A+ certification is required

An MCP/MTA is required

Demonstrate five or more years of full-time experience installing and configuring Windows workstations and later.

Demonstrate five or more years of full-time experience supporting client configuration, administration and network access in a Microsoft environment. Experience in both Microsoft and Apple environments is a plus.

Must have experience with the Altiris - Symantec Management Platform.

Must have experience with Active Directory, Windows Update process, advanced knowledge of Windows registry settings, file and folder security, knowledge of local/domain user security, Operating System troubleshooting. Experience with VBScript, batch scripting experience a plus

Strong adherence to the enterprise change management process-define, comply, and enforce.

Consult and provide recommendations and/or solutions for custom deployments.

Demonstrated ability to perform complex technical analysis, work effectively as part of a team, and communicate effectively with team members, other teams, managers and Government personnel.

Formal training in the above topics is a plus.

Must be a US Citizen or Greencard holder with ability to obtain a public trust

DESIRED:

Experience in both Microsoft and Apple environments is a plus.

Experience with VBScript, windows batch scripting and automated software distribution and patching experience is a plus.

* Library-specific applications (Voyager, Relais, OCLC, etc.)
* Administrative applications (TAIMS, Lightspeed, SOF, OLG, etc.)
* Scanning and OCR tools

Knowledge of NLM OCCS organization and IT Support missions

* Desktop Support
* Network Operations
* System Services - System Engineering and Architecture
* Application Services - Software modernization
* Facilities management

Project Management experience

Sufficient Knowledge of SAIC Enterprise IT and Cyber Security Services in order to identify applicability and benefits to LM OCCS

Experience working with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Kanban, and Scrum
