Overview

The Department Computing Support Specialist (SCAD/DCS) is a full-time position shared between four departments: Princeton Center for Language Study, Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies, Program in Judaic Studies, and the Humanities Council. This individual has responsibility for ensuring that all hardware, software, AV, and videoconferencing needs are met for each unit, following Office of Information Technology (OIT) policies, procedures, and deadlines. This includes maintaining the functionality of all equipment, software, and websites, and understanding and enforcing all security and compliance requirements of the University.

This position reports to the department managers, with an indirect reporting line to department leadership. This position is for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibility for support of each area will break down as follows: Center for Language Studies (50%), Seeger Center (30%), Judaic Studies (10%) and Humanities Council (10%).

Responsibilities

The Department Computing Support Specialist addresses all emergency issues, and maintains, updates, and resolves routine technical issues, liaising with OIT and University recommendations. The individual will order and install new equipment and surplus old equipment; create, maintain, and edit websites, working with OIT and external website firms; be the first point of contact for technical issues related to remote instructional delivery; and create and maintain master e-lists and social media platforms.

* Ensure that hardware and software are working and meets compliance standards


* Maintain updates and functionality as needed by each user


* Resolve technical issues in concert with OIT and University recommendations (with regards to suppliers, services/warrantees, discounts, etc.) and respond to all emergency issues, including on-call availability while live synchronous courses are in progress


* Order and install new equipment, and properly dispose of old equipment through Resource Recovery


* Maintain backups using software such as Crashplan


* Provide one-on-one service and training


* Distribute notices for OIT updates/changes required and available training


* Perform system administration, maintenance, and support of Microsoft Windows OS (Windows 8 and 10), Mac OS X (High Sierra and Mojave) and systems in an Active Directory domain


* Install, configure, and troubleshoot a variety of desktops and laptops (PC and Mac), networked hardware (printers, copiers, hard codecs, cameras, microphones, AppleTV's), applications (Office 365, Adobe products, etc.), displays (NEC, Sharp, OneScreen), AV equipment (Creston/Extron, projectors, cameras, etc.) and information access tools


* Operate technology for remote instructional delivery; use conferencing technology to enable remote presenters' access to University classrooms


* Support conferencing sessions, on campus and for remote conference sites, and perform test calls to ensure the conference will run without incident


* Communicate regularly with technical contacts at partner institutions regarding connectivity issues, preferences, and capabilities for shared courses


* Provide group orientation and individual meetings with incoming fellows for the Seeger Center, coordinating Duo Two Factor Authentication and selective needs (i.e. international programs and languages)


* Serve as listserv administrator for the Seeger Center


* Maintain websites, create new web pages, train administrative staff for website editing in Drupal and WordPress; this involves regular updating, editing, and/or assisting staff for web pages and content under their care


* Attend monthly SCAD/DCS meetings and technical training sessions to keep abreast with technology changes at the University



Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of experience, or at least 4 years of equivalent experience
* Comprehensive experience in website design/development and content management, particularly Drupal and WordPress
* Familiarity with working within and supporting social media platforms, particularly Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and the ability to develop and implement a strategy applicable to an academic organization
* Experience working with images and photographs for regular updating and adding announcements on websites
* Experience with creating abbreviated versions of various forms of video outlets and posting to websites
* Advanced expertise with Google Analytics, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Constant Contact, Microsoft Office suite, and Office 365
* Comfort in troubleshooting mobile devices, smartphones (iOS, Android, etc.), and tablets
* Experience with remote administration tools such as Bomgar, Apple Remote Desktop, and RDP
* Knowledge of full drive encryption and security software such as BitLocker, FileVault, and CrowdStrike
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with stakeholders and web design firms, for improvements and modifications to websites
* Ability to both independently manage time and balance priorities, while also working in a collaborative and team-oriented environment
* Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects in a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment with attention to detail and flexibility to respond to shifting priorities
* Ability to multitask and manage the priorities of several departments
* Capability to lift 50lbs, twist, bend, and work in awkward positions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Prior work experience and familiarity with Princeton University applications
* Web design/development skills, including expertise with CSS and HTML5, XML, XSL and experience with PHP and MySQL
* Proficiency in Windows OS 8 and OS 10, Mac OS High Sierra and Mojave
* Expertise in both web-based and room-based videoconferencing systems (Cisco, BlueJeans, Zoom, GoToMeeting)
* Familiarity with AV control technologies, like Extron
* Experience with Service Management software such as ServiceNow
