Job Description

Title: SWAT Manager

Location: Santa Clara, CA or San Francisco, CA

Company is seeking an experienced Database/DevOps/SWAT Manager to join our SWAT team within the company. You should have experience with large scale MySQL environments and a knack for problem solving and optimization databases, application and performance issues. Qualified candidates will be responsible to lead a team of highly skilled engineers that push the limits of scalability through our specialized single-shard technology. As part of this role you will be responsible to learn the application, troubleshoot any peroformance issues resulting in from databases or application (JVM) and provide feedback to developers on best practices.

What you'll be doing:

* Lead and facilitate technical discussions to strategize scaling out MySQL.
* Manage and grow future leaders in the team
* Build a team of engineers that would engineer solutions and automate daily operational tasks
* Assist the team with technical problems and incidents when necessary
* Learn basic aspects of the application and become SME's in 2-3 areas for the application.
* Work with the team to maintain weekend on-call rotation only for your timezone.
* Work with developers on best practices and provide insight how we benefit from them in the application.

Your background and who you are:

* Must have Bachelor's Degree in Information Science, Computer Science or similar areas or equivalent work experience
* Must have 2+ years of experience managing teams of engineers and/or Database Administrators
* Must have 5+ years of MySQL and Linux experience in an intensive, high-traffic, web-based, multi-threading applications on multi-core architecture environment
* Must have expert level knowledge in MySQL 5.6+, complete understanding of different engines and related utilities such as Percona Toolkit, mysqladmin etc.
* Must have experience in backup/recovery/failover methods and best practices
* Must have experience in scripting languages, such as PHP, Shell, Perl, Python, etc.
* Must have background in performance.
* Knowledge of JVM is a huge plus
