Responsibilities

SUMMARY:

This Developer position will be involved in the development and support of a Regional Data Warehouse, which serves as the foundation for data needs within the seven regional companies with W.R. Berkley Corporation. The Regional Data Warehouse facilitates both the analytical and operational data requirements of all participating companies and is considered mission critical for conducting business in today's commercial property and casualty insurance marketplace.

Candidates for this position must a self-starter, must be able to work on projects that include developers in multiple locations, must be flexible and open-minded to other ideas and approaches.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties and responsibilities include:

* Develop all processes necessary for loading and sustaining the regional data warehouse
* Providing second level support the regional data warehouse and all processes related to it.
* Collaborating with the business to understand its analytical and data needs and applying technology to satisfy those needs.
* Code, test and implement software solutions, adhering to organizational development standards.
* Create and maintain documentation to necessary to communicate and share details about all processes and procedures related to the regional data warehouse.
* Work with other organizations to ensure effective operation of the regional data warehouse.
* Participate in design activities.
* Cross-train other developers in the use of development tools as is appropriate.
* Promote best practices.
* Assist in a customer support role to address customer questions or problems with applications.
* Estimate time required to implement changes or new functionality.
* Follow formal change management procedures as described by management and supported by the business.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Regional Shared Services requires its Data Warehouse developers to have a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or equivalent field, or a non-related Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years' experience, or an Associate's degree in Data Processing with a minimum of four years development experience, or a High School diploma with eight years of development experience.

INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE

Two years' experience within the Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance industry is strongly preferred. Candidates who have experience in personal lines will be seriously considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

* Experience with Agile methodologies to complete assignments

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

* Experience in the use and support of one or more relational databases
* Is able to apply relational database concepts
* Possesses 5 years' experience with SQL Server
* Possesses 2 years' experience developing and supporting ETL solutions using Integration Services
* Utilize Internet search engines to resolve development problems and learn new techniques
* Knowledge of Atlassian Suite components is preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Functions generally performed in an office environment. Must be able to work as a team member to solve problems and exchange information. Travel should be expected on occasion to other regional locations
