What you'll do

As a Data Feed Engineer, you'll work on the design and development of a key capability that will support the GTB (Global Transaction Banking) Data Factory. You'll help design, build, and deploy tools and automated processes to manage the ingestion and refinement of raw data into the data factory. You will analyze and ingest data from various source inside and outside of the Bank, refine and manage that data and prepare it for consumption by analytics applications. The data factory also manages the distribution of data to these analytics applications, as well as to client-facing APIs.

The Data Feed Engineering team is responsible for onboarding data to the data factory. The includes partnering with source owners to obtain data feed, analyzing the data in those feeds, and implementing processes to ingest, refine and land the data in a big data repository. It also includes applying protections to the data, to ensure that sensitive data is handled and stored safely. As an engineer, you'll work on the design, engineering, rollout and monitoring of this data capability, in a dynamic big data environment.

Challenges you'll address include:

* Sourcing - assisting with the identification of data sources and ensuring that data is delivered in a repeatable, sustainable manner
* Analysis - exploring data to determine how it should be transformed and enriched to make it suitable for analytics
* Transformation - building the data pipeline to ingest and transform data in a highly automated manner
* Enrichment - implementing logic to address inconsistencies, errors, and issues in data
* Quality measurement - implementation of rules to measure and monitor data quality and to issue alerts and warnings when quality thresholds are breached
* Protection - applying various protection measures to sensitive data, such as masking, tokenization, encryption, de-identification, or other measures
* Automation and instrumentation - designing and implementing a highly automated and instrumented process that can run with minimal intervention and provides robust performance, throughput, and health metrics

Who you are

You will have a strong and varied background in designing and building innovative software solutions in a data-centric environment. This position will require hands-on experience designing and coding software in a variety of languages and platforms, with an emphasis on ETL and other data transformation technologies. You have a good understanding of big data platforms including HDFS and Hadoop, and will have worked in an analytics environment building data warehouses or data lakes. Your background likely includes multiple programming languages, exposure to relational and big data/noSQL databases, and experience working in an Agile development environment. Prior work experience in a regulated industry is highly desirable.

As a member of our team, you will inspire your colleagues through your words and actions, and you'll have an opportunity to work with them to achieve frequent small victories. You will be a strong collaborator and will gladly share your knowledge and experience with other team members. Likewise, you'll be hungry to learn more and will enjoy working in a dynamic and diverse team. You value transparency and intellectual honesty, and you're excited by the opportunity to help design and implement the next generation of data and analytics capabilities for Deutsche Bank's Global Transaction Banking businesses.

How you'll do it

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, you will:

* Assist with identification of source systems
* Partner with data quality analysts to run profiling on data sets and determine the transformations required
* Consult with control partners to understand data protection requirements and implement them for sensitive data
* Engineer a high performing data ingestion pipeline using batch and streaming data transformation tools. You will likely use commercial data transformation tools (e.g. Pentaho, Informatica, Stream Sets) as well as custom-developed capabilities
* Implement data quality rules through custom development, in a data transformation tool, or using a specialized DQ tool
* Help design the operating model for the data factory and the big data repositories
* Identify appropriate instrumentation points to monitor the health of the environment
* Design and build monitoring capabilities and their associated reporting dashboards to allow a clear view of the health of the data factory
* Provide early warnings on areas that need attention in order to keep the data factory functioning at a high level
* Automate processes and tools using RPA and other tools
* Develop and apply data protection protocols, including techniques such as data masking, encryption, tokenization, and de-identification
* Lend your technical skills to other teams to support our shared goal of creating a world-class analytics environment
