Job Description

The Apparel & Footwear market segment is substantial, reaching more than $300B in the US alone. The Amazon Fashion Technology team's charter is to transform all aspects of the fashion experience using catalog and visual features to help ensure a compelling experience for customers shopping for clothing, shoes, and accessories online, worldwide. The Softlines Discovery team within this organization is creating new, visually-focused browsing experiences across Softlines Browse, Search, and Detail Pages to better inspire customers who are shopping for clothes but do not have a specific item in mind. This team includes a team of applied scientists and engineers that use Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing to detect trends and fashion attributes to improve the quality of Amazon's US catalog and to power collections that make it easy and fun to narrow exciting new looks to the specific products that have all the attributes you're looking for.

We are looking for a Sr. Data Engineer to join the Softlines Discovery team to accelerate our efforts in delivering inspirational shopping experiences for Softlines. This person will build new data and business intelligence solutions end-to-end that help us measure the short and long term impact of the significant changes we test within search and detail page. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with big data sets and have the expertise to utilize these datasets to answer business questions and drive growth. They will also demonstrate strong curiosity and willingness to rapidly experiment alongside applied scientists and engineers as we test and refine models to deliver new experiences that are now possible with ML/CV/NLP.

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

* Design, develop and maintain scaleable, automated, user-friendly systems, reports, dashboards, etc. that will support our analytical and business needs
* Use analytical and statistical rigor to solve complex problems and drive business decisions.
* Write high quality SQL code to retrieve and analyze data from database tables and learn and understand a broad range of Amazon's data resources and know how, when, and which to use and which not to use
* Develop models and visualizations for ad-hoc requests and projects, as well as ongoing reporting

In addition to leading the design, development, and management of our data architecture, analytical tools and reporting, we will also look to this person to provide thought leadership and business analysis support as needed. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong business acumen, experience in developing reporting and analytical infrastructures, an ability to work effectively with cross functional teams, and be resilient in a fast paced and evolving environment.

This role will report into the Fashion Science team leader, but this role will support the most important initiatives across Softlines Discovery, and will work closely with the SL Discovery Director and team. This role will require strong executive communication skills, as this person will regularly present to the Softlines Leadership team. This is a high growth opportunity with significant visibility as work to use data and science to transform Softlines into a discovery-focused, visually driven shopping experience.
