Responsibilities

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join the AB Data Science Team. This group is chartered with building data science capabilities across the firm. Projects encompass all aspects of our organization, spanning investment research, sales / marketing, trading, risk management, and operations. Data scientists and data engineers work with the stakeholders from across AllianceBernstein to surface challenges and opportunities that can be effectively addressed using data science techniques and modern data technology. The data scientists and data engineers develop solutions around algorithms, tools, and infrastructure that can significantly impact our business. Initiatives include harnessing modern data technology, machine learning, and advanced statistical modeling techniques to improve investment outcomes and to improve sales productivity and client interactions.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with modern data architectures, developing software, assembling, processing, and checking the integrity of large and complex datasets, and designing, constructing, testing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines that support machine learning orchestration in a cloud computing environment.

The Data Engineer will be responsible for architecting, building, testing, and maintaining robust and scalable modern data and machine learning pipelines using cloud platforms for analytics and models implemented by the Data Science Team. He or she will instill best practices for software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements, deliver high-quality work, and continue to learn new technologies

Qualifications

The Data Engineer should have 5+ years of experience in a similar role and a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a highly related field.

* Be proficient in query languages for both SQL and NoSQL technologies
* Be fluent in Python (and many of its libraries), Java, and Scala
* Has strong familiarity with both SQL and NoSQL databases, such Cassandra, MongoDB, Postgres, InfluxDB, GraphDB, Neo4j, etc.
* Be well-versed in modern data technologies including the entire Hadoop ecosystem, Spark, Docker, Kubernetes
* Has experience in distributed computing, working with large-scale structured and unstructured datasets, and developing and maintaining data lake and data warehouse
* Has experience in data pipeline and workflow management tools, such as Luigi, Airflow, etc
* Has experience with machine learning orchestration tools
* Has experience with devops tools
* Has expertise in cloud computing technologies
* Has strong project management and organization skills
* Can demonstrate the ability and willingness to quickly learn new technologies
* Has experience using Agile software development methodology
* Be a self-starter and willingness to take initiative with little supervision
* Has strong verbal and written communication skills
* Having proficiency in other programming languages is a plus
* Experience in Elasticsearch, Elastic Stack, and front-end development tools is a plus
