Database Administrator Lead

Summary:

Leading team responsible for maintaining databases by identifying and resolving database issues, providing ongoing maintenance and proactive performance monitoring, and supporting users. Provides highest level of hands on database development support for application development teams, including work with T-SQL, Stored Procedures, SSIS packages, etc. Provide highest level of support and assist team in troubleshooting and tuning production application and integration issues. Will react quickly and lead team in system failure situations, minimizing downtime.

Responsible for managing the completion of estimating, programming, documenting, debugging and testing databases within the Greyhound environment. Interacts with IT staff and business users as appropriate. Works with architecture and development leads to establish best practice development and architecture standards.

This position will continually research new methodologies and combine them with industry standard best-practices to stay abreast of valuable information and skills to benefit Greyhound's websites. This position will also mentor less experienced team members to strengthen the team in building a set of core competencies to support the business and its underlying database technologies.

Responsibilities:

* Partners with Application Development and Support teams to develop, introduce and support database technology solutions. Maintaining an effective working relationship with these teams is key.
* Provides expertise and guidance in Azure migration and stabilization
* Provides direction on overall database strategy to include forecasting and road maps to achieve key objectives for performance of upcoming feature enhancements
* Prioritizes, tracks, and analyzes team's performance data for the purposes of improving operations, forecasting staffing needs and effectively utilizing all available resources
* Defines database requirements by interviewing business partners, analyzing applications, programming, and operations.
* Designs and implements monitoring for all database systems; includes leveraging third party tools for system KPI's and proactively identifying performance issues with appropriate solutions
* Installs enhancements or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts; recommending optimum access techniques; coordinating installation requirements.
* Ensures all productions changes are made in accordance with lifecycle methodology and risk guidelines and are fully tested and documented within our ticketing system
* Maintains the highest caliber of service by establishing and enforcing organization standards
* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.

Qualifications:

* High School diploma or equivalent required
* Bachelors Degree in MIS, Computer Science or equivalent work experience strongly preferred
* Relevant technology certification is encouraged

Core Capabilities:

* 10 years' experience working in Database Operations group(s)
* 8 years' experience with hands on SQL Server administration, installation, upgrades and configuration in HA environments.
* Experience migrating to Azure cloud services required.
* Strong TSQL and SSIS skills with hands on experience
* Deep insight with SQL Server database performance tuning
* Experience in running and maintaining a 24 X 7 production database ecosystem.

SQL Server:

* Manage the installation and HA configuration of various versions of MS SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016.
* Must have experience with Azure SQL PaaS and Data Factory.
* Must have experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012, and 2016.

Additional Skills:

* Coach and mentor junior DBA's.

This includes supporting Greyhound business units and IT teams with:

* Major incidents or outages
* Implementing changes or production releases
* Upgrades & performance monitoring
* Diagnosing system issues
* Disaster recovery and Highly Available Databases
* Leading and participating in initiatives to improve service offerings
* Creating and communicating service delivery procedures and run-books
* Managing SLAs and deadlines
* Vendor management and escalation
* Experience with various Database Tools - Microsoft Visual Studio, DB Visualizer, Visio, SQL Toolbelt, ER Studio, DBArtisan, SQL Diagnostics Manager, SQL Safe, SQL Compliance Manager, SQL Secure, and SQL Defrag Manager
