For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct research in the areas of computational systems modeling. Your research will focus on the development of a framework for modeling complex systems that takes advantage of the large-scale parallel computation capability. This position is in the Biochemical and Biophysical Systems group in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Conduct research in computational systems modeling with a focus on development of new computational methodologies and tools for whole-cell modeling taking advantage of high-performance computing.
* Collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment and other national laboratories and industry to accomplish research goals.
* Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences seminars and/or technical meetings.
* Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

* Recent PhD in computer science, bioengineering, physics, mathematics or related field.
* Experience with parallel programming, including MPI, and Charm++.
* Experience with the latest C++ Programming language
* Understanding of the concept of optimistic parallel discrete event simulation.
* Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and present and explain technical information.

Desired Qualifications

* Familiarity with system-level modeling methods: SSA, ODE, and FBA.
* Experience in mathematical modeling of cellular phenomena.
* Understanding of the concepts of systems biology and/or whole cell modeling.
* Experience in mathematical modeling of cellular phenomena.



Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: None required.

Note: This is a two-year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
