Job Description

The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is the world's leading biomedical research institute dedicated to the mission of using the power of genomics to transform the understanding and treatment of disease.

The Manguso Lab at the Broad Institute has created the Tumor Immunotherapy Discovery Engine (TIDE), a project devoted to applying functional genomics for in vivo discovery of novel cancer immunotherapy targets. The multidisciplinary team of research scientists, computational biologists, and research associates uses cutting edge techniques including but not limited to CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, preclinical murine models for immunotherapy, and single-cell RNA sequencing to improve our understanding of tumoral mechanisms of immune evasion.

We seek a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Associate Computational Biologist at the Broad Institute. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about taking a hands-on, problem-solving approach, and collaborating with research scientists and associates in an informal collegial work environment imbued with intellectual rigor. The right candidates will have outstanding academic records and strong communication skills, will demonstrate innovative and analytical thinking, and will enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team. The candidate will design algorithms, apply statistical methods, innovate ways to analyze, integrate, visualize, and interpret a wealth of systems data that will directly inform discovery experiments and target advancement projects. Background in computational biology is desired, but most important are strong computational and statistical skills and enthusiasm to learn on the job.

Characteristic Duties:

* Learn best-practices to rapidly analyze and interpret many types of genomic data.

* Apply existing and novel algorithms to mutational, transcriptional, and screening data sets to analyze data quality, critically review and analyze results, and communicate results to colleagues.

* Work closely with biologists to interpret and validate exciting findings.

* Develop data analysis strategies, write algorithms, and deploy computational tools for the exploration of complex systems biology datasets.

* Explore novel data visualization tools, with emphasis on integrating diverse data types.

* Implement algorithms as software for the sharing of results to collaborators and the global cancer research community.

* Prepare high-quality publications and oral presentations.

Requirements:

* BSc in Biology, Computational Biology, or a related field is required

* Background knowledge of cancer biology and/or immunology preferred

* Strong programming skills and experience in algorithm development (using Java, Scala, Python, C++/C#).

* Coursework in Statistics

* Excellent oral and written English communication skills

* Ability to solve complex problems

* Experience with R or MATLAB is a plus (but not required)
