We are seeking a Cognos Developer/Admin to join our team and support our client in Washington, DC. An ideal candidate should have experience using best practices to design and develop IBM Cognos reports. A solid understanding of IBM Cognos is essential for this position as well as a proven ability to work quickly and independently and to provide professional documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Responsible for creating Reports High Level Design & Detail Level Design Documents, Source-Target/Target-Source Documents, and applicable Operations & User Manuals
* Responsible for designing, developing, testing and implementing the Cognos reports for the Data Warehouse & Data Marts
* Designs, develops and delivers report solutions using latest versions of IBM Cognos
* Develops reports security, performance optimization, monitoring, auditing and logging
* Collaborates with business and other technical groups
* Reviews, analyze and identify gaps in existing ETL business requirements, functional requirements document and source to target mappings
* Gathers reports requirements and works with data modeler as needed, to design optimal reporting solutions
* Provides technical support for issues, including hands-on troubleshooting and implementing enhancements and customizations
* Develops and validates reports to pull client data, based on documented results of client data validation processes

Work Experience:

* 7+ years' experience with reports development and reports architecture development using IBM Cognos
* 3+ years of experience with Cognos administration Server administration (install, upgrade, troubleshoot Cognos environments), content administration (reports/package promotion, user security)
* Solid experience in developing Cognos reports
* Strong knowledge of data warehousing Dimensional (Kimball methodology) as well as Relational (Inmon methodology)
* Advanced SQL development experience (query tuning is a plus)
* Extensive experience in Databases: DB2 and SAS
* Experience developing and reporting architecture documents, user documentation and training material

* Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills
* Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
* Work individually and in a matrix environment with minimal supervision
* Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
* Meet aggressive deadlines as necessary
* "Can-do" attitude, pro-active and resourceful

Education:

* Bachelor's Degree is required.

Communication Skills:

* Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to present solutions and gather requirements, comfortable interfacing at all levels of the organization
* Ability to write clear and concise creative content in a highly confidential manner

Travel:

* Willing to travel occasionally as needed to Unissant HQ (in Herndon)

Environmental Requirements:

* Mainly sedentary; in an office environment. May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds
* Flexible in working extended hours
