How you'll make an impact

Based in Denver and under the direction of the cloud data product owner, you'll be a part of a key team as they move from project to product-focused work. You will work closely with Xero's project, product and platform teams to understand requirements and build fit for purpose solutions that meet operational needs. You will help build the team's technical capability to design, plan, improve and operate mission critical data services in the cloud.

What you'll do

* Develop continuous delivery pipelines to automate cloud based database solutions.
* Build and support database infrastructure that confirms to industry and Xero standards.
* Help ensure the infrastructure operates in a cost effective manner.
* Continuously improve processes and solutions to be scalable and highly available.
* Alerting & anomalous detection of behaviors.
* Work closely with the product architects for each product to ensure alignment with their roadmaps and data requirements.
* Provide technical solutions that shape the team backlog. This includes listening to and interacting with product specialists, product architects, site reliability engineers, leadership teams, product owners, and product teams.
* Work with the product teams to help them use the team services to solve real-world problems and operational concerns.
* Work with your team to define milestones and ensure fit for purpose delivery of solutions.
* Work with your team to take operational responsibility for their services and to establish processes and monitoring which drives incremental improvement.
* Ability to provide 24x7 on call support as required.

Success looks like

* Data infrastructure conforms and operates to industry, as well as Xero standards of uptime and availability.
* Provide a high level of documentation for internal customers.
* Xero's product teams choose to adopt the team's services and provide positive feedback about the service, new features and improvements.
* New features, enhancements and fixes are rolled to production regularly and with as few bugs/issues as possible.
* Features and improvements are delivered in a timely fashion and in line with Xero's overall strategy.
* Meet agreed Service Level Objectives for operational performance and continue to improve the way the service is operated and monitored.

What you'll bring with you

* 3+ years of experience in a similar role
* Exposure to Continuous Delivery
* Experience in multi-region environments incorporating data and web applications preferred
* Experience working with AWS components.
* Experience working with database solutions (eg Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL etc)
* Logical problem solver
* Strong desire to automate
* Windows and Linux Administration
* Programming competence (eg, Ruby, Python, C# or .NET Core)
* Scripting competence (eg, Powershell or Bash)
