Overview

The U. S. Census Bureau is the primary source of basic statistics about the population and economy of the Nation. These statistics assist the Congress, the executive branch of the Federal Government, state and local governments, general public, and the private sector in the development and evaluation of social and economic activities. Our major programs are the periodic censuses, current surveys, and a wide range of reimbursable work for other agencies.

The programs cover a broad spectrum of demographic and economic statistics. To fulfill the critical and continually expanding mission to meet the data requirements of our users and to reduce growth in operating costs, we have become increasingly reliant upon information technology (IT) to improve the timeliness and quality of statistical products as we encounter scarce labor and dollar resources. The importance of maintaining a state-of-the-art capability to accomplish our mission is imperative. The computing resources enable our staff to develop, process, and maintain enormous collections of basic data about the people and economy of the Nation.

The LAN Technology Support Office (LTSO) provides enterprise IT support services to a large portion of Bureau of the Census employees and staff members including the administrative divisions, the Executive Staff, program areas, and the Information Technology (IT) Directorate. LTSO services include hardware distribution and installation, network and technical services software installation, cost effective purchases, installation, support of desktop and server technology, and Service Desk support.

The Citrix Engineer SME I responsibilities include completing work on major, complex projects with full competency. Coordinate with both technical and non-technical staff and vendors on the implementation of complex projects. Perform analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex problems on both physical and virtual infrastructure platforms including VDI. Recommend, implement and document corrective solutions and preventative measures. Participate in evaluation and recommendation of new technology solutions. Document work in the form of policies, standards and knowledge base articles.

Responsibilities

* Evaluate, plan and integrate technical infrastructure solutions and guarantee a secure infrastructure environment as well as production stability and performance.
* Perform research, evaluate and provide documented recommendations for new technologies and tools within the IT field.
* Assist with the rollout of large projects, including installing computers, networking equipment, server and storage solutions and more.
* Provide off-hours support (24x7) on a rotational basis
* The SME is primarily responsible for the delivery of workplace solutions (VDI, virtual applications, mobility solutions) to the customers based on Citrix and VMware technologies.
* This position is responsible for assisting with implementation, rollout, and documentation.
* Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in various technologies, including Citrix NetScaler, XenApp and XenDesktop.
* Implement technologies to support network optimization, traffic management, multi-factor authentication, and application and network security.
* Participate in, and in some cases, lead implementation efforts for clients using Citrix NetScaler, XenApp and XenDesktop
* Leverage professional communication and presentation skills; lead presentations given to IT business owners, and IT staff.
* Develop and deliver documentation explaining configurations and advanced technical concepts.
* Participate in the development and ongoing maintenance of Service Delivery Framework documentation and processes to ensure that we are delivering work in a standardized, repeatable and efficient way.

Qualifications

* Candidates must be able to pass a US Public Trust background check for badging and to access client systems.
* Must possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University or College in computer science.
* This position requires candidates that can maintain a flexible work schedule between the hours of 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM midnight.
* Must possess a Citrix CCP-V or CCA-V and VMWare VCP or Microsoft MCSE/MCSA/MCP certification.
* Experience working in a high-speed, fast-paced and ever-changing field
* Sound knowledge of XenApp 6.5 and 7.6.
* Sound knowledge of Citrix Web Interface and StoreFront platforms.
* Sound knowledge of Windows 7/10 and Windows Server 2016/2012/2008 R2.
* Sound knowledge of Hypervisors, VMWare vSphere, MS Hyper-V and Citrix XenServer.
* Sound knowledge of XenApp farm migration and upgrades.
* Sound knowledge of Provisioning services and virtualizing Citrix Servers.
* Sound knowledge of physical and logical networking; to include Application Virtualization technologies (MS App-V).
* Previous experience in working in complex infrastructure projects.
* ITIL v3 Foundations Certification is highly desired.
