Job Description

The Chief Architect is responsible for providing overall leadership, establishing and maintaining a technical strategy , defining the architecture progression to achieve the strategy and lead the technology transformation to enable a $70B Pharmacy Care Services business. S/he is responsible for leading business specific Enterprise Architecture capabilities, as well as collaborating with other Chief Architects across the entire UnitedHealth Group enterprise.

Core responsibilities will include:

* Engage with business and technology leaders to fully understanding business strategy and vision


* Create and drive a technology strategy to enable the vision to be realized


* Develop and maintain a rolling 3-year strategic architecture roadmap (and socialize, evolve and obtain buy-in for the roadmap)


* Define a step-by-step process to deliver incremental results on the roadmap


* Consult with engineering teams to solve problems at their root cause


* Define and lead an application modernization and rationalization agenda, including cloud migration


* Create deliverables that provide exceptional clarity and connections to business objectives


* Package presentations concisely for executives


* Provide direct leadership to a team accountable for the Architecture capabilities but also capable to work on solving the hardest technology challenges, assess emerging technologies and perform proof of concepts


* Set / mature the vision and strategy for the team


* Create and foster an environment of innovation - including: remove roadblocks and enable strategic risk taking; advocates and drives change management, enable and model adoption of innovative behaviors and practices



Required experiences:

* 15 years of progressive technology leadership experiences


* Demonstrated expertise applying Enterprise Architecture practices to drive business value


* Track record of success with application modernization and rationalization


* Experience migrating from on-premise to cloud-based platforms (Public, Private and hybrid)


* Proven success creating business-enabling 3 year technology roadmaps


* Experience architecting scalable technology solutions that adjust to cyclical business patterns


* Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities and an enterprise-wide perspective


* History of executing with excellence: setting purposeful goals and achieving them through intelligent actions, which balancing competing priorities without losing momentum behind execution


* Experience leading through influence in a complex, large, matrixed, global environment


* Prior people management responsibilities with senior level team members as direct reports


* Leadership style which fosters accountability, transparent communication, innovation and leading by example


* High level of emotional intelligence and confidence


* Outstanding collaboration, strong influencing, problem solving and negotiation skills


* Proven ability to sell ideas to others outside of your direct team members



Desired experiences:

* History of working within an Agile delivery model


* Data streaming (Kafka)


* Experience with open source technologies


* Direct to consumer background (Digital, eCommerce and mobile)
